Yes, as of the last Firmware update the CL can have the right control button, or the FN button programmed to select AE lock. And, I think, although I don’t need this for my purposes, AF lock - someone correct me if this is incorrect.

At last we have a one button toggle on/off AE lock button, which I find very helpful as it has been part of my MO for years on non-Leica equipment. The only slight functional glitch is that it resets after exposure. But that could be seen as a good thing if one overlooked the setting for a further exposure.

There is another thread with details of this.

My CL is even more of a keeper now.

Thanks, @Tim B, I didn't realise AF lock is now possible - I thought it was just AE lock. I've had to correct my post above.

Correct: v3.1 enables customization that allows either FN or right dial button AE-L, AF-L, or AE-L+AF-L toggle with a single press. I tend to forget about that because I hardly ever use AE-L and don't have any AF lenses. :D

My 2 cents. I have the CL, purchased used with the 18-56. The 18-56 is ridiculously good lens whose only fault is it's small maximum aperture.  I added a TL-23 and the TL-35 to have autofocus in lower light. Both of those primes are very, very good. After a recent vacation, reviewing my work I found that the rendering of the TL-35 (at least on screen of both iPad Pro and iMac 27") was truly my favorite.

I also have a Q2 and while the Q2 is awesome in so many ways, I find the CL is remarkably close at least pixel peeping on screen.

I stand corrected.I didn't realize that latest update allows top right button or FN to be programmed for either AE lock or AF lock.

I was most interested in having AF lock. Location of the button is not as convenient as having it in the rear as back focus, but very pleased to have this interim solution until more permanent solution (hopefully) in CL2. Well done Leica!

+1 "My CL is even more of a keeper now"

Yes, I agree, another button would be helpful.

I have re-assigned my FN button to select ISO since I assigned my right control button to AE-L. I previously used the FN button for other things like WB.

It is interesting to see a trend to reducing the number of buttons in various new models, moving functions to menus. This might make for a cleaner body style, but I’m not sure it helps shooting functionality. I suppose it depends on how many functions for which one needs to have one button access. We are all different in this respect, depending on shooting style.

I almost always use Aperture priority auto on either Manual or AF lenses. I find Auto ISO very useful, but ISO is one thing I need to have easy access to. I also like to easily change from spot to matrix metering. Otherwise my style, a hangover from my M days, is pretty simple and I’m happy to use menus for rarely used functions.
