markowich Posted August 1, 2007 Share #1 Posted August 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi friends, i was curious how the m8 would perform for landscape photography, so i took it as my only camera on a scotland trip a couple of weeks ago. in fact, i am very happy with the results, in particular with the 21mm leica lens. you can find samples in: scotland_2007 Photo Gallery by markowich at pbase.com all the best, peter

Mauribix Posted August 1, 2007 Share #2 Posted August 1, 2007 Hi Peter, really great Job here! I much appreciate those color pictures, really "enchant".... I've always considered M8 a great camera for landscapes and i have some samples in my landscapes gallery (http://www.mauriziobeucci.com/gallery), i think you've find one of the best use for L-mar 21 despite of the 24, which is a lens often misunderstood on M8. Thanks for sharing you made one more time make me love M8! regards Maurizio MAURIZIO BEUCCI.com - Official web site
jaapv Posted August 1, 2007 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2007 Pretty good camera for the purpose, I agree... thanks for sharing those great photographs. Let's make this a landscape thread.
chris_tribble Posted August 1, 2007 Share #4 Posted August 1, 2007 Oh well, my 2 cents - the M8 does work - both for landscape and nature... Carried it around the lakes with 28 + 135 as my default pair (NEVER thought I'd find this such a good combination) and was able to cover landscape and nature without problem. These were all around St Bees in Cumbria... Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Mauribix Posted August 1, 2007 Share #6 Posted August 1, 2007 Hi, Jaap, thanks for sharing yours! maybe we can better describe the lens (and feeling) which can do landscapes better?! I fell in love with a couple of lens for landscapes.... I love the current version of the 50elmarit (because of its only-4-stunning-detailed-elements). A great lens for landscapes even if it's not obiously so wide!, and 15cv apart, i would like to mention the new 28elmarit asph too (that i prefer to 28cron because of its limited resistance to purple fringing). Soon I will post some samples... Regards maurizio MAURIZIO BEUCCI.com - Official web site
markowich Posted August 1, 2007 Author Share #7 Posted August 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) hi friends, thanks for your reactions and the wonderful pictures. in fact, i hardly ever miss my DSLRs on trips anymore (except recently when i was on a safrai in an indian national park). wide angle lenses on the m8 easily beat those on canon/nikon DSLRs, however a problem i encountered rather frequently with the m8 was moiree patters on grass meadows, tree leaves etc. but this is easy to deal with, sacrificing a bit of resolution. peter
cam2000 Posted August 1, 2007 Share #8 Posted August 1, 2007 Took my M8 to the country...... the potato flowers shot was done with the Aspheric Summicron 35 and the Kildaire shot was taken with my latest lens the Elmar-Macro 90. Guest Essemmlee Posted August 1, 2007 Share #13 Posted August 1, 2007 For moving around Florence without backache you can't beat the M8 and a couple of lenses. These are both 75 cron post processed in Lightroom, cropped in CS3 and slightly softened. Welcome, dear visitor! hdrmd Posted August 1, 2007 Share #16 Posted August 1, 2007 I think the M8 is great for landscapes, not only because of the lenses and the files, but because I find that I take it with me to places I would not carry the bulkier SLRs. This is from the Horse Farm country here in KY. DR Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! mitchell Posted August 1, 2007 Share #18 Posted August 1, 2007 Oy, I thought I'd fixed the magenta snow in the second shot, but clearly I haven't. Kill me now. !:^) Mitchell

Snow often has a purple sheen; it is our eye and brain that filter it out.No reason to do so with the camera. My minimum-set: M8 and collapsible Elmar M 2.8/50 with IR cut filter:
johnwolf Posted August 1, 2007 Share #20 Posted August 1, 2007 Good thread, Peter. I use mine on a tripod frequently, just like a medium format. They next day I head to the streets.
