I guess anything is possible, I didn't want to have a buy a whole filter system for one lens. I have some 77 filters already from my fast nikkor lenses so the 12 made more sense for me. BTW that 15mm looks like the one with filter threads, the M version.
Martin B Posted August 24, 2019 Author Share #25  Posted August 24, 2019 (edited) I tested the CV 25/4 LTM lens today on a rainy and cloudy day with Arista Premium 100 film in the IIIc which I developed afterwards with Xtol (1:1). I really like this tiny and inconspicuous lens - not having the rangefinder coupling was not a big deal with this lens. Composition with the external CV 21/25 viewfinder is quite accurate. A keeper lens for me which I got for $200 as used but nearly mint black version online. A few examples: f/5.6 at 3 meters lock: Welcome, dear visitor! david strachan Posted August 24, 2019 Share #27  Posted August 24, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm suprised no-one has mentioned any of the Canon ltm's. Some standouts for me... 35mm f2 tiny and very good to use. 135mm f3.5 very sharp, quite contrasty, a truly great lens better than hektor i think. 50mm f1.4...the Japanese Summilux 50mm f1.8...close enough to a Japanese Summicron. 50mm f1.2...Japanese Noctilux...mmm, mine is too glowy at f1.2, for my taste anyway. Very nice build though, might have it serviced to improve performance. All excellent. And for me, best thing is no focus shift with the Canons. Which i find a problem with some of the Voigtlander-Cosina lenses. ....

It takes clamp-on a36 filters, or would if it had not had a slight ding in the front which just stops them fitting so I had to modify a push-on lenshood. My Leica repair man said it was as sharp as the contemporary Summicron when he serviced it. my friend has the 50mm f1.4 which I have used, also good.  Welcome, dear visitor! Currently I have and use a chrome Canon Serenar 50/1.8 rigid and a collapsible 1.9 - both of which, IMHO, are on par with the collapsible Summicron I previously owned. I saw severely worn Canon LTM lens bodies going for $$$ (especially the 35 mm versions) - decided it is not a good time now to jump into this.
Martin B Posted August 24, 2019 Author Share #32  Posted August 24, 2019 One more remark in regard to Leitz/Leica 35 mm lenses. I just double-checked online, and prices for Leitz 35/2.8 Summaron LTM lenses go for more than what I paid for my Leica 35/2.0 version IV M-mount lens which is even a stop faster. Needless to say that the M-mount lens is better in image quality - with the much older LTM-mount based Summaron lens you don't even know what you will be getting including potential delamination issues due to the age of the lens. I should point out that I am not a camera or lens collector - I am using my gear in the field. So yes, I can see this as the only reason why a buyer would go for $$$$ to purchase now a Leitz 35 mm LTM lens - as a collector (or maybe investment) item. But just to use it sporadically on an older screw-mount camera does simply not justify the price IMO.

I have the LTM Canon 35mm f 2.8 and it is as good as any of the Summarons. As a collector, I have all of the Summarons other than the 3.5 M with goggles and they are all very good. Users should not get upset at the prices that collectors pay as there are plenty of other options out there. The prices in both markets are determined using different criteria, of course. William Sort of agree with you and thanks for confirming that the prices are driven up mainly by collectors which I suspected. But what please are "plenty of other options"? Yes, there are lenses made by Canon, Cosina-Voigtlander, etc but they all are affected by a snowball pricing increase effect also - cheaper than the Leitz options but too expensive what they are worth in their own class, too. After seeing all this, I am happy that I got very good M-lenses in the past, so I don't need to vest now into LTM ones (I use the M-lenses on other M-based cameras of course).
gyoung Posted August 24, 2019 Share #35  Posted August 24, 2019 The price asked for 2.8 Summaron 35s in screwmount has been high ever since I can remember.  I bought a 3.5 and a Voigtlander 35/2.5 to use on my III for very much less, seemed like the best of both worlds from a user's point of view. Gerry This is likely true - I just entered this market after I got my IIIc for a steal and had it serviced now. Before I never looked into LTM lenses. The CV 35/2.5 is less compared to the Summarons, but still a hike also especially when comparing it to newer M-mount versions and their price.

Ko.Fe. Posted August 25, 2019 Share #38  Posted August 25, 2019 I have Jupiter-12 from one of the first batch called as Russian Biogon with MiC wide angle hood from eBay. It will only flare if I point it to the the sun direct. I use it often on M4-2, because my Leica 35mm natively coded lens is on M-E. Nothing wrong with it on the prints.  Welcome, dear visitor! I posted a few above in this thread - and I just came back from another round of shooting with this lens. So far I like it a lot, and I am quite impressed with its sharpness for this small size of a lens. I will post a few more after I developed the film from today.

Two examples of photos I took yesterday at an airshow. Leica IIIc with CV 25/4.0. Ilford FP4+ 125 film, developed in Xtol (1:1). Very sharp and excellent corner to corner sharpness here at f/8.   Welcome, dear visitor!
