Version II shorter in total length?

No : as can be hinted from the drawings, in the v2 the f stop ring, when lens is retracted, "rests" onto the base barrel (see the bottom drawing from lct), while in v1 the  f stop ring (smaller in diameter) penetrates a bit into the base barrel (*), which is slightly higher - total length when extended is the same.

Personally, I like a lot my chrome V1 (which bears the code of the black version… an oddity…) and don't feel any need to Exchange with V2 : but I was longtime accustomed to the usage of addon goggles for near distance (Summicron 50 lenshead with SOMKY) so like the usage of MEM 90 goggles : also, I have a M240 with it not so advanced EVF... the v2 is made specifically for EVF, which is much better on M10.  It's true that chrome is heavier than black, but for me it's a matter of pleasure to use : I like the chromes and that's all… B)

(*) see hereunder the slight intrusion of the f stop ring : bad cellphone pic but hope it's clear…

Hello,

I have the Macro Elmar V1 chrome with the macro adapter M with goggles and you can not change the aperture when it is retracted, which is no problem as this lens is intended to be used only fully retracted, even with the macro adapter with googles. The Macro Elmar V2 can be used the same way as the V1 (fully retracted), but the V2 is also intended to be used with the EVF and the macro adapter M without google. When mounted on the Macro Adapter without google, the Macro Elmar can be used fully retracted to obtain up to 1:2  ratio (better than 2.7 with the googles) and also fully retracted (from infinity to 0.8m). It has a wider aperture ring, to allow to change the aperture even when the lens is fully retracted, which is not the case with the V1) and put on the macro adapter M. V2 clicks also on the position fully retracted and fully extended; V1 only clicks on the position fully extended.

More info on http://www.slack.co.uk/2014/Leica_Macro_Elmar.html

Best regards.

Dominique

The 90/4 macro v1 can work with both v1 and v2 macro adapters. As for changing apertures when it is retracted, suffice it to extend it a bit, change the aperture and retract it again. Not very convenient admittedly but not rocket science either and i'm glad to be able to use its metal hood in reverse position for transportation. YMMV.

Buy a rubber hood.

This one comes from the Elmar-C 90/4 but its thread pich doesn't match so i use it when i need a filter. It is less efficient than the stock hood though. I have a rubber Heliopan as well but it takes more room in the bag.
