Stuart Richardson Posted August 30, 2019 Share #101 Posted August 30, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Scott, they work fine, only without AF. All the other functions are transmitted. It picks up the focal length and aperture, and magnifies as you turn the focus etc.
Advertisement Posted August 30, 2019 Posted August 30, 2019 Hi Stuart Richardson, Take a look here Why Are So Few Buying the S1R?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
scott kirkpatrick Posted August 30, 2019 Share #102 Posted August 30, 2019 Right. I tried out an S 120 and it worked quite well in a macro setting, with aperture and shutter speed controlled from the camera. Focus by magnification and peaking, but manual. tosvus Posted August 30, 2019 Share #103 Posted August 30, 2019 (edited) Just to circle back to my previous comments - my main gripes with the S1R was focusing and price. However, after getting input here, and researching a lot - it sounds like the S1R is better at focusing than the GH5, and possibly G9. With native lenses, I think the performance will be ok, and as others mentioned, nobody beats the Panasonic IBIS. There is an upside to no PDAF focusing, which is the striping in the shadows that can be noticeable when you try to raise shadows, on other cameras. With that point down, my main issue with the S1R was how much they are, but lo and behold, I won a bid on Ebay, getting a S1R body, shipped for approx $2400. Hopefully it is in good shape. I then found a barely used Panasonic 24-105 for 800 shipped, so a starter kit for 3200 and change is not too bad. The downside is, now I'm bitten by the bug, and want to get the 70-200, Sigma 14-24, and possibly a couple of Primes. Looks like my M43 equipment is going up for sale Edited August 30, 2019 by tosvus
