FYI - the Leica SF 40 works really well with the M10 - TTL, small enough and it has built in flash accessories like bounce and wide/tele mix and also an included flash diffuser.

SF40 is the thing to go for ... except if you plan to do wireless off camera flash at some point. In that case, there is only one option at the moment, I think: SF 60.

Are these flashes overpriced without adding any Leica type manufactural excellence? Yes.

Is it the only game in town for TTL and HSS, if you one a Leica: really unfortunately yes as well.

I have the SF-40 and use it on my M240 and M246.  I got it because it is small and light.  It only supports Leica TTL and manual operation.  My big flash, the Leica SF-58, also supports auto-thyrister flash.  In that mode the flash controls the flash exposure rather than the camera. It also does not require a pre-flash, so no blinkies.  Leica TTL on my bodies (don't know about the M10) is rather primitive compared to that of other makers.  It is easily fooled by light sources in the frame or a bright background.  In those situations I use the SF-58 in Auto mode, which works perfectly.  There are third party flashes which will work in auto-thyrister mode on the Leica bodies. My Nikon flashes do, but I have not found one as small as the SF-40 that both pans and tilts.  So when I know the Leica TTL will work I use the small SF-40, otherwise it is the SF-58.

You can use a simple third party wireless flash trigger such as the Flash Q T2 from lightpixlabs with the SF40. I have the first version and it works - small, simple, inexpensive but no TTL. SF40 has manual mode. Not the perfect solution but it works.

I've also the flash trigger Q T2, it actually works in M mode  with SF 40 but with SF 58 can be used as auto system in mode A taking profit of its flash capability to auto decide by itself the correct exposure according the light reflected to the flash by the subject. Then it would be necessary to go at the second hand shop.

AHH! The same option you have buying a Leica SF 24d, in second hand opportunities. A small and tiny and versatile flash very useful in your bag that can work in TTL, A and M modes. (G.N. 20 - ISO 100).
