I've been planning to explore a lightweight travel option to go Europe-hopping with my son this summer.  So the M10 might stay at home and the new Q2 go instead.  I found that the Summilux 28mm is a great one lens kit with the M10/M60/M246/M-P I use normally.

The fully Automatic mode is a nice and refreshing way to capture kids in play, and especially shoot one-handed with a gelato or an espresso or a coke in the other hand.  I'm actually surprised how great it is.  After two years of almost exclusive M shooting I can do it one-handed alright using Summilux notches but it is a bit slow and hard on the pinky.

I'm still not happy with the random autofocus misses, which never happens with the M system.  The thumb wheel works as +/- EV adjustment when the aperture is out of A and that gives a nice control.  The manual focus is very well done to anchor as AF and then go manual.  One thing that bothered me is that it will not fix at the infinity when stopped before clicking to AF, at least the contrast oscillates to peak and then off before clicking over to AF.

I can easily see the Q2 as a second body on a trip and possibly the only one.  But I miss the 50mm APO and longer.  Yet for a long travel light it seems a safe option.

If you shoot both the M system and the Q, how do you like to do it?

The misses can be decreased by switching to the right AF Mode. You'll receive a ton of photos which can't be done with the M System and you are free to use the MF Modus. I did the last trips with Q2 only and nearly never cropped a picture.

It's not self-evident, but it is a powerful skill, to explore the different autofocus modes. Access needs to go in one's FN button and have at the ready. With these cameras, it's almost as much a consideration as (say) aperture setting or shutter speed.

But when in doubt, go to manual mode, as T00m says.

I get a bunch of misses with AF that I don't get with MF on an M, because I find myself in the wrong AF mode, or if I miss the spot when using the screen instead of the VF, etc. While the M can be a lot slower, there's no wondering what mode you're in and how to get out of it.

And while the Q/Q2 have a great lens, I don't think that it/they are a match for the best M glass - perhaps because of the pixel stretching that goes on in processing. So I think of it as an easy-to-carry camera, particularly good for moving people, but not a replacement for an M with a couple of good lenses.

Depends on your subjects, of course. If they are in the middle of the frame, the Q/Q2 is just great.
