Dopaco Posted May 29, 2019 Author Share #23 Posted May 29, 2019 Hello, I have the lens in my possession. At first glance it seems to be fine. What verification could I do to detect failures? Thanks again for everything.
Jeff S Posted May 29, 2019 Share #24 Posted May 29, 2019 36 minutes ago, Dopaco said: What verification could I do to detect failures? Take lots of pictures and look at results. Really. Otherwise don’t worry. Of course make sure focus is smooth and aperture clicks are tight. Jeff
a.noctilux Posted May 29, 2019 Share #25 Posted May 29, 2019 Fine and great finding at good price. Verifications is same process as other gears : smoothness and "good pictures" . To verify, first thing take some pictures with it and your M8. Focus ring is ok when turning it many times, not a "grit" while focussing. Same with the aperture ring. The hood mounting on the lens and take it of the lens easily when pushing the release-tabs.
Dopaco Posted May 30, 2019 Author Share #26 Posted May 30, 2019 Thanks to all of you. I will take pictures and observe results. I present you with images Elmarit 28 f2,8 put on my M8. The lens hood that accompanies this lens and the closure lid, as can be seen in the last image where the arrow appears, protects the front of the lens, but with the opening to the left, the lens remains unprotected from possible dirt and the dust. . . . . Is this usual, or is there some other medium that I do not know? While writing, I have seen that, with some skill, the round lid of the lens enters the opening of the umbrella (tightening the 2 anchors of the lid), in principle, that could be the solution. The lens is handled well, it is smooth and uniform, when I can take pictures, I will study them and observe the results. Could this 28 mm be considered a good option to always take it on the M8? ..... Welcome, dear visitor! a.noctilux Posted May 30, 2019 Share #27 Posted May 30, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) The hood with cut-out is normal. When viewing on the camera viewfinder, to hide less the scene to see more. Don't worry for dust if you put on the cap when not in use. You would "need" E46 size UV/IR filter for the lens, so you can let the filter on the lens full time to protect it.

OK. Many of those who have M8 in the forum and upload very nice photos, say they prefer not to place the UV / IR filter. I have used it in my summicron C40 f2 and I have tried it without the filter and with a filter and I have not noticed big differences or at least I have not seen them or I have been unable to see them. Jeff S Posted May 30, 2019 Share #29 Posted May 30, 2019 I recommend that you read the M8 (and other M) FAQ, which will address most questions you have, as well as others you don’t yet know to ask... https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/216580-leica-m8-m82-m9-m9p-mm-mtyp240-faqs-questions-with-answers/ As far as whether the 28 (37mm equivalent FOV) is sufficient, only you can say. Take a lot of pics to find out your style and needs. And, as I’ve written several times already, you have a frame line preview lever to help you consider alternate views as if you owned different focal lengths. Good point above, too, on getting a high quality UV/IR cut filter if one didn’t come with your lens. Color rendering on the M8 benefits greatly. Jeff Thanks for the link.
