Advertisement Posted April 28, 2019 Posted April 28, 2019 Hi rfunnell, Take a look here Leica SL price plummets. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
albireo_double Posted April 28, 2019 Share #2 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 They do discount in other parts of the world. Under the pretense of selling "factory-checked, ex-demo, ex-Leica Academy" cameras and lenses. They just don't advertise them much; you need to ask the right guy at the dealer. I was quoted a similar price for an SL a month ago, by the dealer, with two years of warranty. This was in their second hand department - the new department guys who are now a separate profit centre,Ā were not even aware of the deal. And the second hand department did not advertise it online. Only when I asked directly, did they say they had a bunch of SLs available at around the price that you've seen.

Trade sources I have spoken to tell me that it is not falling off the shelves. I predict that by the end of the summer the S1 will be selling for under Ā£2,000. Thatās a lot of camera for the dosh compared with the four-year-old SL design, good as it is."
Jon Warwick Posted April 28, 2019 Share #4 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 Is there a general rule of thumb for the typical timeframe Ā and % price dropĀ that one can expect for non-Leica bodies such as the Pansonics?Ā I'm used to only buying Leica (whereĀ new prices areĀ normallyĀ pretty stable for most of a body's life) that it's a genuine question from someone contemplating an S1R at some stage! ron777 Posted April 28, 2019 Share #6 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 I was told, as recently as this week, that the market value of the SL in the US, in pristine condition, is $3500, however, that is not what the dealers are willing to pay for it. Ā The best ROI I was able to muster was through a local dealer via a trade for several Leica SL lenses to be used with my S1R, and I'dĀ received $2800.00, and that transaction occurred this past Friday. Had I opted for a straight sale of the SL the return would have been somewhat less. Ā Based upon the current trend,Ā I would expect that the value of the SL will continue to decrease over the coming months and then level off at some dollar value. FlashGordonPhotography Posted April 28, 2019 Share #8 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 My two SL's have paid for themselves many times over. And even if they hadn't I'm not planning on replacing them any way. I've added a S1R but the SL's will remain as my 24MP bodies. It's very rare I keep any camera as long as 4 years. But I still enjoy my SL's and they do the same job they have always done. They'll probably get more use as I won't have a Sony system anymore now I have the S1R. Gordon

Popflash returns 80% to the customer, so $2800 if the agreed and executed sales price were $3500. Ā No need to trade, and they handle the online and store marketing after consignment. ron777 Posted April 28, 2019 Share #10 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 (edited) EdBut, as youāve indicated, itās Ā a consignment as opposed to a straight sale. Iāve already consummated my deal but I do not favor consignments, as it is essentially a sale in waiting, or a potential sale. Iād rather make my deal, take the cash and call it a day. No waiting, just over and done. And if I get a few dollars less, at least iām Not waiting for a buyer to come along while the camera continues to depreciate. Btw, $2800 is what I sold it for, and the trade involved SL lenses that I had intended to purchase anyway.just acquired them sooner rather than later. Jeff S Posted April 28, 2019 Share #11 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 Iāve done trades, but use consignment at times for popular mint items whenĀ proceeds exceedĀ quoted trade.Ā Ā A private Ā sale would yield the most, but this avoids the hassle.Ā Iāve never waited more than 2 weeks for a sale under these circumstances. No item has ever lasted more than 1-2 weeks regardless which avenue I chose to sell. I may be buying a SL with these new prices. Well worth the experiment at this current price point. scott kirkpatrick Posted April 28, 2019 Share #13 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 I noticed about six months ago that Popflash had stopped listing the SLs.Ā But not B&H.Ā I've got two SL's, one purchased new and one used for what I remember as $3500, and 24 MP meets my needs at present.Ā Of course I would be strongly tempted by 47 MPx in an SL2, but would not let the SL bodies go until Leica comes up with some serious advances in video capability, positioning it something like the Sony 12 MPx models.Ā The main reason to move on up to 47 MPX is to see if the new line of SL APO-Summicrons can exploit them, but I'm not sure what I would do with even completely awesome and successful results of that experiment.Ā And at present, I am enjoying the simple life with my M10-D and some of those non-depreciating M lenses. Tailwagger Posted April 28, 2019 Share #14 Ā Posted April 28, 2019 One does wonder how allĀ generationsĀ of the SL will fairĀ against the S1 cameras if their prices sag fairy rapidly.Ā Anecdotally, B&H has had both versions in stock for immediate deliver pretty much since introduction. In other quarters,Ā the Canon R is already available at almost 15% off, whileĀ theĀ Z7 is off byĀ 17.5% at the moment.Ā With all the overlapping introductions, its clearly a tough market.Ā Hopefully Leica is paying attention.Ā PerhapsĀ the recent SL price dropsĀ from dealers portend aĀ lower than expected introductory price forĀ the next SL2.Ā

jaapv Posted April 29, 2019 Share #17 Ā Posted April 29, 2019 Depends. If Leica has indeed stopped production whatever price they formally charge will be irrelevant, and the dealers are simply clearing stock.
