As half a million Britons are in danger of losing their power and 350,000 have no fresh water, the weather further north yesterday morning was somewhat more benign.

Spare a thought for those affected by the flooding, folks.

Andy,

Photos like this, Nature's power and beauty, are always humbling. You've rendered both beautifully. The layering makes this photo particularly powerful...the very low clouds weighing on the land and the height of them...great tones and clarity as well.

Wow, thanks for the responses, guys. It's all about the light, and being there to catch it ;)

This was with the DMR and 28ROM, converted to B&W in PS3

For anyone interested, these dunes used to stretch 500m further out to sea 100 years ago, and they continue to recede at around 5m per year. It is noticeable, even if you only visit once every couple of years. There is a caravan park from the 1960s, complete with caravans, buried under the current dunes. No doubt they will re-emerge from the face of the dunes here in due course.

Blackpool Tower can just be seen in the distance at the extreme left of the photo.

Steve U has just popped round and handed me an A2 sized print of this from his new whizz-bang Epson printer.

So a big thank you to Steve!

I am amazed at the quality that the printer can produce.
