Can someone let me know how to attach the thread adapter for the M10. I have an old 1.4 X magnifier from my M240 and i wish to use the thread adapter to use it on my M10 but i can't seem to attach it to the magnifier and then to the M10. Do i need to remove part of the old manifier first? The metal tool that comes with it doesn't seem to fit over any of the parts of the OVF or the Magnifier. If there is a YOU TUBE video that would be very useful.

Thanks

Hello,

I think that you have the thread adapter 24001.

With the adapter, you have a sheet telling how to attach .

First with the metal tool, the matching side must be put on the 2mm ring adapter.

Take the ring out of it's cardboard then screw it to the magnifier thread.

Or I discovered that easier way : attach/screw the ring with it's cardboard to the magnifier, then detach the cardboard.

After that screwing in the M10 VF as usual.

The rangefinder thread adaptor part no 24001 (which I have fitted) is intended to accept and carry old diopters and enable the combined unit to fit the M10.  However The diopter fits behind the adaptor and the tool enables the assembly to be tightened.

i understand  you are attempting to fit a 1.4 magnifier.  I don’t think the 24001 is suitable for that as the magnifier has to mount on the front.  You should be able to screw the 24001 into the eyepiece with or without a diopter lens.  Then you need to be able to screw the magnifier into the front. I’m not so sure that’s possible.  I don’t own a magnifier.    If not, you’ll need a second adaptor.  Can’t help with that.  Sorry.

EDIT .   noctilux has made a suggestion at the same time as me.   If he is referring to a magnifier (not a diopter)  then perhaps it is possible.

According to the description the  thread adapter 24001 should work with the magnifier: http://uk.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/Technical-Equipment/Viewfinder-Accessories/Thread-Adapter

I never tried it since I think it‘s cumbersome. You have to to fix the adapter with a little screwdriver. When you want to use a 35 or 28mm lens without magnifier you have to unscrew the magnifier first and then also the adapter.

The adapter is just like a very small step-up/down ring and the rectangular silver bit is the tool to fit/remove it. (This is not clear in the official photos of the product;-)  The tool fits into the little slots on the adapter ring - not the body or the magnifier/diopter.

I’ve fitted it directly to the 1.2 magnifier with no probs at all. Best to leave it on the magnifier rather than on the body/viewfinder as it reduces the viewfinder diameter by a few mms.

Thanks all. What everyone has said makes sense and is what I thought. I can certainly attach the adapter to the 1.4 magnifier no problem but it then does not screw into the OVF. Without the adapter the 1.4 is too small and yes I expected that as a step up ring that would be easy but for some reason the thread of the adapter does not fit the OVF. I was wondering if I have to unscrew the rubber cup on the OVF but am reluctant to do so unless i know it is the correct procedure. What is even more weird is the tool does not grip the adapter. I wonder if i have perhaps got the wrong adapter mixed in with the wrong tool...

Very strange.

To go further, can you show us some snaps of the OVF and the x1.4 magnifier (Leica ?).

I don't think there is "wrong tool" or wrong adapter : on the tool marking 24001 , and no place for marking on the ring.

I don’t understand why it does not screw into the camera viewfinder? Can you see the threads on the camera? Or is there already something else screwed in there? I did not need to remove anything.

Try the adapter the other way up - the fact that you say the tool does not work may indicate you have put the adapter ring onto the magnifier the wrong way up. I think there’s a small ridge that prevents the adapter being screwed too far into the camera viewfinder - if it’s the wrong way around it will not screw in...

I don’t understand it either. On my M240 the 1.4 magnifier just screwed straight in. I knew the thread on the magnifier is too small for the M10 OVF so this adapter is a step up ring that fits the M10 supposedly but it just doesn’t screw in for some reason.  I will continue trying but to me if the thread fits it should attach pretty easily and it just won’t catch. Will take some photos to explain what i mean. Thanks for everyone’s comments so far. I’ll get to the bottom of this.

Mystery Solved! The below photo of the instructions shows what appears to be an easy attachment using the metal tool to tighten the adapter to the magnifier. For some reason the tool did not fit the adapter as you can see from the right photo. Also there was no 'notch' in the adapter and so the tool seemed useless. This adapter did screw into the magnifier but would then not screw into the eyepiece.

After trying the adapter on about 50 times, i decided to check the leather wallet which it came in to see if there was anything else included. Lo and behold there was a much smaller ring that was not in the piece of cardboard holding the bigger ring and which I had presumed was the adapter. Nowhere in the instructions does it say that there are TWO rings included. The smaller ring has the notch as you can see in the photo and as depicted in the instructions. It also fits the tool!

The second smaller one fits as advertised and is very easy to use as predicted.

I am puzzled as to why I have two adapters in the box and no mention of the bigger one, which incidentally has no notch and does even fit the tool supplied. I am glad it fits though. May be i can sell the big adapter for $100...

And here it is at last. This has got to have been the most annoying experience yet!

So very strange indead.

Is it a rubber ring attached to the adapter ?

My ring has in each side two notches to engage the tool.

No it's not rubber, it is metal with one side with a smaller thread sticking out and the other side with a bigger thread, neither of which fit the viewfinder. No notch. I have no idea what it is for!
