This was specifically about shutters. The  M8-2 ones did fail from time to time, but the M8 ones less in my memory. At any rate the stated purpose of the slower shutter in the M8-2 was a noise reduction, not a reliability improvement - that was the gist of my response.

No. The M8.2 shutter fails more often than the M8 one, if posts in this forum are anything to judge by. The M8.2 shutter was changed to reduce shutter noise.

I remember reading about the problematic M8 shutter being upgraded in M8.2. I don't agree with you here, sorry.

If you have to print at 30 x 40 or something else.
How do you see the image quality taken with Leica M8 (10mp.) And printed at the indicated size, in relation to the same image taken with Leica M9 (18mp.) And printed at the same size? ..

Thank you
regards

Nothing wrong with complaints, and this is a good place to report them, get them figured out.  It's the generalization made on the basis of them that are incorrect, based on no statistical data whatever, plus lots of people who think they know how Leica should make their business decisions.

Totally agree with Scott. When my M8 was around three years old several people reported cratered shutters and there was at least one graphic image posted. I sold mine due to those concerns. Really missed the 1/8000 shutter speed, though. On my second M8.2 now but never a problem.

I am in Portugal vacationing right now and having a lovely time with the M9-P. For me the FF gives me more options. I find the battery info on the top cover of the M8 to be annoying, but battery life (for me) is worse on the M8 so I suppose it has its use.

Both of these bodies still appeal greatly for me due to their simplicity, CCD sensor and lovely bw conversion tonality.

BTW, while I have seen others carrying or shooting Leica’s in America, until yesterday I had never seen anyone in Europe with one. I was shooting in the Chiado district of Lisbon and not one but two Leica shooters walked over to say hello. One had a very nice M7 and the other an SL and an M I wasn’t able to identify.

Don’t remind Jaap.  Of course Leica spun the change in a positive manner, emphasizing noise reduction.

There are NO issues with shutters on the M8 or M8.2.  Most Leica shutters have a lifespan of over 150k actuations.  Most M8s have not even reached 10% of that.

As for the original question, I like the M9 well enough but I LOVE the M8.  I still prefer the M9 to what came after it (M240, M10) but overall the M8 makes me feel most inspired.  Not sure why; maybe because of its obvious flaws and quirks? It’s the most like me LOL

It makes for rather poor statistical analysis.  The following post got it right -- more posts complaining about one thing (M8) than complaining about another (M8.2) does suggest that the second thing goes wrong less often.

M8 series makes great IR photos.

No good 85/90 equivalent focal length.  I use my 75 2.0 APO  as a 100 mm . I do not print "big" so the smaller file is fine. Occasionally I want a 21 or 24 , therefore out of luck

M8 is cheap enough to be an everyday carry.

The older I get, the more I believe in one lens, so the 35 2.0 Summicron V4 is glued to the M8.  ASPH version is for other M cameras.

When I look at the photos from my first 1959 Waltz Envoy with 50 2.0 Nippon Koagu (Nikon) I was able to do quite a bit with that camera. So  I apply that to now.
