danieldouloslee Posted February 15, 2019 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love tweaking my cameras to make it as what I think would be aesthetically beautiful. I'm sure many would be taken aback by my thought as many appreciate the simplicity of the M-D262 design now. However I was curious, would it be possible to remove the front screw and add the Red Logo on the M-D 262?
Advertisement Posted February 15, 2019 Posted February 15, 2019 Hi danieldouloslee, Take a look here Adding Red Logo on the M-D 262?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
a.noctilux Posted February 15, 2019 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2019 Why not, but... Just compared for my own culture: - on my M (typ 262) there is a "recessed home" for the Leica red logo - on my M-D, no trace of the "recessed home" to accept red logo I just leave them as they are since I own them. earleygallery Posted February 15, 2019 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2019 The camera isn't designed to be fitted with the Leica badge, you could get one and stick on the front but it'll look wrong. Alternatively send it back to Leica and ask them to fit the standard (with badge) top plate which I'm sure they'll do for price of course!

The M-D 262 has a unique top plate unfortunately.....as it has both a ‘step’ end a la M9+M262 and a function button. The base plate is also different as there is no cut out for the bottom edge of the screen (so I haven’t been able to fit a handgrip as they never made one to suit....) sblutter Posted February 15, 2019 Share #5 Posted February 15, 2019 Rather than the camera, concentrate on your pictures
a.noctilux Posted February 15, 2019 Share #6 Posted February 15, 2019 M-D is heavy comparing to M262 with it's aluminium top. Weighted mine sometimes ago, M-D at 686g and M262 ...595g (with battery). Nice idea if the aluminium top (of M262) can be swapped on M-D, however it would need to drill a hole for M-D's "function button".
epand56 Posted February 19, 2019 Share #7 Posted February 19, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Yes, you can stick it over the screw with some glue (Cyanoacrylate glue should make it eternal). You can also stick sone Swarowski ices over the top plate and change the black leatherette with some pink one. But I think it was better buy an M262 with the red dot already in its place. I'm sure a lot of tape-frenzy-people in this forum will find your post quite silly. Maybe one of them is ready to change his M262 with your red dot lacking M-D262. plaidshirts Posted February 26, 2019 Share #8 Posted February 26, 2019 Years ago people used to engrave their name or even their social security number on their gear. I'm not talking professionally either. Hard to imagine that in this age of identity theft and all. At least a red badge won't leave a permanent scar. Michael Geschlecht Posted February 27, 2019 Share #10 Posted February 27, 2019 Hello Daniel, Welcome to the Forum. Your idea seems reasonable & do-able. You might consider starting by checking with Leica in Allendale, not too far from New York City, or with someone like Don Goldberg, a little futher away, and seeing about the availability & price of red logos. Then, you might try fitting the logo in place with a piece of carefully trimmed, plain ordinary, double sided Scotch Tape which is available pretty much anywhere. After that & after you have lived with it for a while you might come back here & we can write about what to do next. Best Regards, Michael
danieldouloslee Posted March 1, 2019 Author Share #11 Posted March 1, 2019 Hi Michael! Greatly appreciate your response. Yes, I live 2 towns over from Allendale (unfortunately their business hours are only open when I work in the city). I would prefer to go the top plate replacement route, but will update you all on any updates (if I decide to move in that direction). But, I've thoroughly enjoyed the shooting experience thus far. Michael Geschlecht Posted March 1, 2019 Share #12 Posted March 1, 2019 Hello Daniel, Given where you live you are a short drive away from Sherry Krauter who I have had no personal experience with but with whom a number of people who write on this Forum have had positive experiences. You might also check with her. Best Regards, Michael
jdlaing Posted March 2, 2019 Share #13 Posted March 2, 2019 Sherry Krauter will not touch a digital Leica body.
Michael Geschlecht Posted March 2, 2019 Share #14 Posted March 2, 2019 Hello JD, I know that she only services mechanical M's. But this is just working with the top cover. Not the mechanisms inside. And Sherry's place is just the "blink of an eye" from Allendale. Best Regards, Michael
jdlaing Posted March 2, 2019 Share #15 Posted March 2, 2019 She’s pretty adamant about it. And never bother her before 2:00 PM.
