Strange, not in the version of fotos I have (iPhone).

The currant version is 2.1. Basic and Pro (you have to pay extra for Pro) both versions will show the firmware version loaded to your camera.

I use Adobe's dng_validate scanner to extract all sort of metadata from a dng file., but for the special case of the M10-D, Fotos is the appropriate tool.

Well, it would be if it actually showed you the camera firmware version! Perhaps it's Pro only? (And no, I'm not giving Leica 50 quid a year for something I won't use.)

No, the Basic and Pro both show the firmware version. Go to settings and scroll down, it is the last item.

Yes you've already said that, but it doesn't for me. In the app settings it just shows the app version. In the camera settings there is nothing at the bottom.

Sorry but I may not have been quite clear in my reply. Go to Settings then half way down the page go to set up, then scroll down to the bottom.

I don't have a "set up" option, on either the app settings page, or camera settings.

Half way down the app settings page by the way is an advert for Leica FOTOS Pro, so I do wonder if this actually is Pro only (which would be bizarre).

I can see it at the bottom of camera settings for the -D, too.  I run on Android.  I don't have Pro.

Connect.  press the little flower on the top line at right, that gets you to a page of options.  third one after the link to install Pro (which you can ignore) is "setup".  Go there.  scroll down all the way to the bottom.  There is the firmware.

It works on an M10-R as well so it's there, I presume, for any M.  Fotos doesn't go as deep into an SL or CL or SL2, but I'll check.

Ironically I've found a way - the second item after the FOTOS Pro advert is "Customer Support" (the third is "Usage Reports" btw). If you press that, it creates an email template to send to Leica CS. Included in that is the firmware version!

All of this is so frustrating to have to flounder through to get a simple basic viewing of one's camera set-up and information. For me it just continues to underline the sadly inadequate instigation of Foto's in general and Leica's way too early abandonment of the M10-D in particular. Foto's has absolutely no value to me apart from the very occasional change in the M10-D's set-up and it's subsequent reset. I never use it for my other M10's, it's quirky, funky and about as useful as a chocolate tea pot.

It's very limited for sure, but honestly for me it does all I need (which is the occasional M10-D settings change as you say). It's a lot more reliable now than it was also. Even if they add more stuff, I highly doubt I'd use it, because I love the M10-D mainly because of it's "analogue soul" ... the last thing I want to be doing is fiddling with my mobile phone while using it!

The one thing I would appreciate is more speed when connecting, but I fear that's more a hardware issue with the camera itself, because the bulk of the time is spent enabling WiFi in the first place - once the green light has stopped flashing, completing the connection is pretty fast. Still very far from a big deal though, considering how often I use it.

Can you give a tools example please? Lightroom doesn't show it, and I tried a couple of online EXIF viewer (one of which showed a ton of information, but not the camera firmware version, unless it was hidden as something else).

EDIT - found it! It's called simply "Software" (I searched for "version" and "firmware"!). The viewer I used was here, in case anybody else ever needs similar: http://metapicz.com/#landing  - I was on the latest btw.

You don't need Fotos or any special software to find the firmware so long as you use Lightroom Classic.  In Lightroom Library click on Metadata.  There is a dropdown menu, which usually shows as Default.  Click on this and choose Exif, and the firmware version is shown near the bottom as Software.
