Elmholt Posted January 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted January 17, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all Leica M10-D users. How do I access the firmware and replace it in M10-D? From time to time there will be an update, but I cannot see which version of the firmware I have in the App Leica Photos associated with the M10-D Best Peter
Advertisement Posted January 17, 2019 Posted January 17, 2019 Hi Elmholt, Take a look here How to see and install Firmware in M10-D. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted January 17, 2019 Share #2 Posted January 17, 2019 Just go to Leica's website. Firmware and instructions can be found there.
pico Posted January 17, 2019 Share #3 Posted January 17, 2019 Follow this link, scroll down do download Firmware. Instruction downloads are also on that page. It does no harm to update firmware over that which is already in the camera. All you can get is the proper version:
Jeff S Posted January 17, 2019 Share #4 Posted January 17, 2019 Without screen, the M10-D process is likely similar to the procedure described here for the M-D.... https://www.reddotforum.com/content/2016/06/leica-m-d-typ-262-firmware-version-1-0-0-4-released/ Check the manual (online?) to be sure. scott kirkpatrick Posted January 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted January 18, 2019 10 hours ago, pico said: Follow this link, scroll down do download Firmware. Instruction downloads are also on that page. Don't use this link with the M10-D; it goes to the M10's current firmware, 2.6.5.0. Firmware for the M10-D as it is shipping now is 2.6.5.1. When new firmware appears (or if you have installed the M10 firmware on a very early camera by mistake) the upgrade is done by putting the correct firmware on an SD card in the usual way, then holding the FN (top) button down while turning the camera on. The upgrade will proceed automatically. 1
jaapv Posted January 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted January 18, 2019 When you follow the correct link, (as Scott says, disregard the one given above) you'll find that there is no firmware update for the M10-D. It may be that you'll have to enter your camera type. http://us.leica-camera.com/Service-Support/Support/Downloads?category=93710&subcategory=153183&type=&language=all Leica will send out notifications if and when such firmware becomes available. If you registered your camera and your e-mail address is known to Leica you will receive newsletters and notifications.
DickieT Posted January 18, 2019 Share #7 Posted January 18, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Peter. In summary - all M10-D camera's have shipped with the latest firmware, being 2.6.5.1 so you don't have to worry if you have the latest version or not. If you register your camera, you will get an email and update from there. It will be all over this forum too in case you missed it
ronnjay Posted January 21, 2019 Share #8 Posted January 21, 2019 If the latest firmware for the M10-P is 2.6.5.1 what is the version just before that?
M11 for me Posted January 21, 2019 Share #9 Posted January 21, 2019 2.6.5.0 with the M10 (not M10-D)
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 21, 2019 Share #10 Posted January 21, 2019 M10-D during the beta test in which a number of us participated had firmware 2.5.5.1, and production units appeared with 2.6.5.1. I think the .1 suffix is restricted to the M10-P and -D.
ronnjay Posted January 21, 2019 Share #11 Posted January 21, 2019 My M10-P has firmware 2.4.5.9. I know the latest is 2.6.5.1. Is my current firmware only missing the Fotos stuff or is there something else missing? Thanks, Ron
Guest Posted January 21, 2019 Share #12 Posted January 21, 2019 So, just to be clear, obviously as there's no way to check on the camera also there's no way in the App to see what version of the firmware your M10-D is running, right? I would have thought that would not be a difficult menu item to add to Fotos for M10-D users.
scott kirkpatrick Posted January 22, 2019 Share #13 Posted January 22, 2019 That's a good point. I'll add it to my list of M10-D + Fotos upgrade suggestions.
Guest Posted August 18, 2020 Share #14 Posted August 18, 2020 Is it still the case that you cannot check the firmware version please? I've just purchased an M10-D (November 2019 build date), and when I try to update with the latest firmware (2.7.5.0), I just get "ERR" in the viewfinder. I hope this just means it's already on this version, but it would be great to know for sure! Is there a feature/fix in 2.7.5.0 perhaps that I could check for the presence of? scott kirkpatrick Posted August 18, 2020 Share #16 Posted August 18, 2020 You can check the firmware version in the metadata of a completed shot. But that's not so easy. I look for it in the information page of Capture One or with some more specialized software tools.

Yes I know when it was introduced, but it still doesn't guarantee my camera is on the latest. I've had very old (relatively speaking!) firmware on new Leicas before. Lightroom doesn't show it, and I tried a couple of online EXIF viewer (one of which showed a ton of information, but not the camera firmware version, unless it was hidden as something else). EDIT - found it! It's called simply "Software" (I searched for "version" and "firmware"!). The viewer I used was here, in case anybody else ever needs similar: http://metapicz.com/#landing - I was on the latest btw. fenykepesz Posted August 18, 2020 Share #19 Posted August 18, 2020 if you use exifread with python3 to open a DNG file, the variable name for the firmware version you are looking for will be called "Image Software".
Matlock Posted August 18, 2020 Share #20 Posted August 18, 2020 I assumed from this post that you don't have the fotos app. If you do then go to settings and scroll down to the bottom and it will show the firmware version.
