Even if it is that doesn't change what appears to be the fact that the hood and cap are now discontinued as spares, only a couple of years after the lens was discontinued. I'm not impressed by that. The 35 Summicron ASPH is not an obscure product but has been one of the most popular Leica lenses of the last 20 years or more. It was also £2500 at the time of discontinuation and is a lens that many owners will want to use for decades. Bearing in mind how easy it is to lose the hood cap and how important the hood itself is for flare suppression and as the first line of protection for the front of the lens, I don't think it is too much to ask of Leica to keep these parts available to buy as spares for a significant length of time. I know that many in this forum have moved on the next "greatest thing" and the previous version 35 Summicron ASPH is now old hat or some boring entry level lens but there are many thousands of happy users of this lens who will be pissed off to have to scour eBay and/or pay inflated prices to buy a scabby replacement if/when they lose the hood cap or damage the hood. jcraf Posted December 31, 2018 Share #24  Posted December 31, 2018 I was talking to a chap in a London Leica dealers a couple of months ago and he was looking for just this item. He was quite knowledgable on 3D printing, and there were no 14043 hoodcaps in stock he wondered if he could 3D print one. Googling shows a number of Leica hood designs downloadable for 3D printing. Obviously Leica hoods are in generally rigid items, but I believe that there are base materials which can allow printing of flexible items like a 14043 hoodcap. I will try and find out more, as at the time he felt that the 3D option was a possibilty. I'm sure he'd sell loads of them, and hopefully for a sensible price. I guess there might be copyright issues, but maybe not, given the availability of generic Leica rear caps and body caps for example. And given that the 14043 is discontinued.  Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

bocaburger Posted December 31, 2018 Share #26  Posted December 31, 2018 I remember once a few years ago finding one in the street outside a hotel in Wetzlar (at an LHSA meeting, the owner was located, although the cap was a little deformed from having been run over). I recall mine falling off consistently, either in the bag or onto the street. I had to opt between making a tether for it or put it back in the lens box until I sold the lens.  I chose option 2 and never missed not using it. I do keep a MRC UV filter on my lenses though, so I'm not reluctant to blow on it and give a quick wipe with whatever piece of fabric comes to hand.
