I cannot say large cards are very convenient - if you fill them up you either have to wait until they are fullto be able to process, wait for Bridge to run through all downloaded shots to download or reformat each time you download and only use a fraction of the card.

You can also run into unexpected issues when a large card becomes full. For example, I noticed that it was impossible to connect to the M10 via the Leica FOTOS Android app when my 128 gb card inside it was full. I restarted both my camera and phone several times - and even shut down my wifi router (in case the channels were interfering with a connection). Formatting the card fixed the connection issue right away. The app must be trying to load previews of all the images on the card.

I picked up a new M10-P body a couple of days ago and have experienced the shutter not releasing several times. It seems this issue occurs with my camera when I try to take a photo several seconds after taking perhaps 3-6 relatively quick exposures (taking a photo once a second or so). I am not shooting fast. I have the latest firmware installed and there should be no issue due to the SD card I use. Turning the camera off and back on seems to fix the issue. Let's hope a new firmware version comes out soon. I'll contact my dealer anyway.

Can you define “not shooting fast?”

if it’s truly 3-6 quick shots there is probably something going on with the shutter and a firmware update most likely will not fix your issue. It would need to be sent into Leica as most likely one of these times the shutter will stop altogether.

However, if you are blasting away you may be filling the buffer, which will keep the shutter from firing temporarily.

Thanks for your question. I am going by memory as it occurred to me afterwards there might be a pattern to the shutter failing.

The camera is brand new and I am still testing with it so I am using it a little different than normal.

It seemed with me, when I took a few (3 to 6 max) exposures each about a second apart, stopped to look at the display (maybe 2-3 seconds or so) then a few seconds later when I tried to take another photo the shutter did not work. I do not think this occurred every time I shot in a similar sequence but it did happen several times.

I hope this is not a buffer issue as I am not shooting that fast. Certainly never had this issue shooting at this speed with my other M's. I have filled the buffer on my M-9 and M-240 several times in the past so I have a reasonable expectation.

Moving forward I will now keep a better record when this failure occurs.

1. I had this happen sometimes with my M10 (not P). Buttons do not react. Switching off/on solved it most of the time.

2. Also sometimes it happens that I press the shutter button, and I can hear the shutter open but then it takes 10 seconds for it to close again. (and this happens in daylight). Oddly some of the pictures taken when this happened look ok. (so maybe the camera just forgets to reset the shutter?)

Agreed. Changing the hardware when the problem is the camera's software is not likely to remove the risk of freezing.

The OP doesn’t know whether it is software or hardware. It could very easily be the early signs of a shutter failure. It happens.

My guess is your shutter probably needs to be repaired.

No. If the above is true your camera is most certainly not operating correctly and should be looked at by a Leica technician.

It just came back from service recently (because of faulty frame selector), would rather not send it again, but as it is still under warranty I guess I have to if the problem persists.

I would. Especially because you just got it back from them. The conversation for me would go something like this:

“Leica, I just received my camera back because the frame line selector broke prematurely and now my shutter is not working corrrectly as it will sometimes stay open for up to 10 seconds even in bright daylight. I really need your help fixing my camera as soon as possible because I’ve already been without it for a few weeks. I appreciate a timely repair.”

you will most likely get it back in a week or two max.

Good luck and I understand your stance.

Thanks for the advice. I will do that.

Always better to have planned downtime rather than unplanned especially because unplanned typically happens at the worst moment.

Disappointing that Leica still hasn't released a firmware fix for the freezing issue, which my M10-P still has. Being advised not to take too many photos too quickly by Leica Mayfair wasn't quite the resolution that I was expecting 2 weeks after spending £6,500 on a camera.

An update with my camera.

The service from my Leica dealer here in Sydney was fantastic.

I contacted them last Thursday, told them of my issue and the next day they had a new camera body in the store for me to pick up. They couldn't say if my experience was from a firmware issue or something else, so they thought it best to exchange the camera. To be honest, I felt a little uncomfortable swapping the camera because I could have waited for a firmware update.

They tried to replicate the issue while testing the camera in the store. As usual, Murphy's law follows me everywhere and the camera worked brilliantly. But it is an intermittent issue.

My new camera by the way, has firmware version 2.4.5.9 installed and is working fine so far. I am going to hold off updating the firmware for now.

No, I bought new 6 SD cards in different places both in Bangkok and Tokyo. I did everything from every suggestions in this forum about SD card. Never fix the problem at all.

Do get an SD card error light in the viewfinder?
