Advertisement Posted December 15, 2018 Posted December 15, 2018 Hi goatsby, Take a look here Forged repair certificate for M9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Ko.Fe. Posted December 15, 2018 Share #22 Posted December 15, 2018 I had my sensor replaced via local dealer sending and receiving. No certificate. Some shipping return document which is mentioning sensor replacement.
goatsby Posted December 18, 2018 Author Share #23 Posted December 18, 2018 SOLVED! Leica USA just confirmed they went through their records and found that the sensor was indeed replaced at their facility on October 16, 2015. Just yesterday they reported that the newest sensor was not installed and that a new one would be $1595, but I pressed them again with the test certificate and they came back with a different story. Thanks to everyone for their input and help!

They were able to send and receive it on my behalf. Camera came back with same skin and Leica didn't refreshed worn out letters on the back. I guess, because I purchased it in Russia. Quick warranty replacement for odd customer.🙂
jaapv Posted December 19, 2018 Share #27 Posted December 19, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The same skin is rather unlikely., to put it mildly The camera must be opened up for a sensor replacement and the covering cannot be re-used. It is impossible to replace the sensor without replacing the leatherette

jaapv Posted December 20, 2018 Share #29 Posted December 20, 2018 Probably not corroded - just a clean. Maybe it didn't even leave Russia.

And Jaap didn't get it at all. Camera was purchased from official Russian dealer, but registered and in use, here, in Canada. Anyway, I don't know how tech savvy you are, but you might still know the difference between dirt and corrosion. Welcome, dear visitor! Purchased in Russia. But it is in Canada ever since after purchase. It went through Downtown Camera in Toronto for sensor. It was in one of the earlier threads at this sub forum, where you participated. Actively. Or was it on RFF :). But you might be right about Leica cameras in Russia. They say Leica sends sensors for some of them to get sensors replaced at one location in Moscow.
jaapv Posted December 20, 2018 Share #33 Posted December 20, 2018 That still doesn't explain "same skin" The covering stretches when removed, if it does not tear. So it is always replaced when the camera is opened up.
Ko.Fe. Posted December 20, 2018 Share #34 Posted December 20, 2018 Sorry, again. It looks like it was reused. Or, perhaps, more accurate, was not applied 100% accurate. Mine came back fairly quick. Who knows, maybe, they did send it to Russia for thier official service place, because it was sold where. And because it was not done by Leica NJ but via them, here is no hand written paper. But I had it back in plastic bag with Leica logo and some paper work.
jdlaing Posted December 20, 2018 Share #35 Posted December 20, 2018 None of that looks like corrosion. It was probably just cleaned and sent back.
Ko.Fe. Posted December 20, 2018 Share #36 Posted December 20, 2018 You are obviously don't know anything about it. It is type of corrosion known as "worms".

The only experience with 'worms' I know of come from, for example, Fuji's reinvention of a color pattern sensor, and the issue is that post-processing algorithms for sharpening fail because they presume Bayer filters. Such a presumption does not work in Fuji's case. Or were you referring to something else? I have a corroded M9 sensor. No 'worms'.

schattenundlicht Posted December 20, 2018 Share #39 Posted December 20, 2018 (edited) Corrosion = circular, oval, or polygonal figures surrounded by bright halo Dust/ dirt = spots w/o halo Both can be compared in the right hand part of this picture taken with my M9 before going to Wetzlar in 2017: Welcome, dear visitor! adan Posted December 28, 2018 Share #40 Posted December 28, 2018 (edited) Of note: 1) the linear corrosion in ko.fe's image looks exactly like the only corrosion I ever actually saw for myself on my M9 - linear and hair-like (but could not be removed by cleaning) and with an incipient (but not fully developed) halo. On the basis of which Leica gave me a free new-sensor-style replacement in 2017 (sent August, returned Dec.). Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 2) My replacement service via Leica NJ came back with an invoice (for $00.00) listing the exact work done - "replaced units X and Y, checked for good working order" (can't quote it exactly - it went along with the M9 when I sold it, for any new owner's reference.) I don't remember if I received a signed card or certificate as well - but the invoice was clearly more detailed and useful.
