bags27 Posted December 14, 2018 Share #1 Â Posted December 14, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having been a Leica owner for less than a year, I haven't followed prices closely. But suddenly, two very good CL packages. M10 and SL at around 8% off list (at least for today by at least 2 dealers). One licensed dealer had a 10% off all Leica equipment on Sunday. These in the U.S. at least. Is this usual this time of year, or is Leica reacting to the strong USD and/or the impending Panasonic announcement? Advertisement Posted December 14, 2018 Posted December 14, 2018 Hi bags27, Take a look here Why all the sudden Leica sales?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
PARIS-14 Posted December 14, 2018 Share #2  Posted December 14, 2018 Could be... lack of sales results for the year, seasonal marketing plans or resellers stock reduction necessity due to some "hypothetical" launch of new products to be shortly announced... who knows? Leica products are very expensive and over here in Europe, the economical situation is tougher and tougher (too strong euro compared to USD!), and a new Leica SL price for instance varies (VAT included) between 5850€ ($6608) and 6020€ ($6800) at Leica stores. Over here, most of the time Leica resellers do not reduce price, they offer more, like a free adapter ring for M lenses if you purchase a CL. A 450€ "gift". And it is true that competitors are proposing better and better equipment, like Fuji, Panasonic and the L mount alliance could also reduce sales of Leica lenses... Hard to understand Leica commercial policy as they are on a very small "niche" and seem to enjoy faithful (and rich) customers to purchase brand new products. Especially if you consider that, after a year or 2, some Leica equipment are worth...only 50% of the new price !!! 🤔
earleygallery Posted December 14, 2018 Share #3 Â Posted December 14, 2018 Have you tried asking the dealers you've seen these offers from?

BernardC Posted December 15, 2018 Share #6 Â Posted December 15, 2018 What's funny is that when Fuji has a massive discount, the reaction in Leica forums is "OMG! Leica is doomed!" When Leica offers a discount, the reaction is "OMG! Leica is doomed!" It's not a phenomenon that is unique to Leica. I've seen enough "OMG! Canon/Nikon/Sony/Olympus/PhaseOne is doomed!" comments to take the whole thing with a grain of salt.
jaapv Posted December 15, 2018 Share #7 Â Posted December 15, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) The Internet is a funny place - when Leica offers gear at their usual price-point they get hammered for being expensive, when they offer a temporary discount they are pronounced on the verge of death. It is the normal roller-coaster of selling and buying, which applies to expensive cameras as much as to packets of crisps.
Brian C in Az Posted December 15, 2018 Share #8  Posted December 15, 2018 The Asian markets are not doing well. The US stock market is basically flat for the year and the bears are forecasting doom & gloom. The trade wars are hurting China. There used to be a saying that "What is for for Detroit is good for America." the newer modern version is "What is good for the Chinese economy is good for the global markets." Without being political, the economy and markets are not strong right now and we will see a small to medium cost reduction in luxury items in the near future.
