Agent M10 Posted December 8, 2018 Share #1 Posted December 8, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am planning to fly to Europe from the States. I planned on using an Oberwerth William with an SL and two lenses. There is some rain in the forecast. Has anyone had experience with Oberwerths in the rain? If need be, I can take a Oeak Design but I don’t really like it.

Guest Posted December 8, 2018 Share #3 Posted December 8, 2018 No knowledge of the Overwerth. I prefer the Wotancraft line .... https://www.wotancraft.tw/product/trooper-l-ash-green https://www.wotancraft.tw/product/waterproof-shock-resistant-insert-small Pretty much bullet and rain proof ... and does not scream camera steal me .... Shipping is fairly fast ... not sure when you leave on your trip. Regards, Bob
bherman01545 Posted December 8, 2018 Share #4 Posted December 8, 2018 I have an Oberwerth Munchen. With all inner and outer flaps closed, it is reasonably water-resistant. With that said, I wouldn’t want to take an expensive leather bag out in the rain, especially if the leather is untreated. I also own a Billingham, which is made to keep your cameras totally dry in all kinds of weather. That would be my first choice. -Brad
Sandokan Posted December 8, 2018 Share #5 Posted December 8, 2018 As it is leather, apply beeswax to it. Did you ask the manufacturer about its water resistance?
Guest Posted December 8, 2018 Share #6 Posted December 8, 2018 Looks by this description that the inside of the bag is fairly water resistant. https://leicastoremiami.com/collections/bags-and-cases-shoulder-bags/products/oberwerth-william-leather-photo-business-bag-black?variant=25491568848 Might be worth measuring your codura insert and comparing it to the waterproof Wotencraft inserts ... you may be able to use one of them. Nothing like a good umbrella ... https://davekny.com/collections/umbrellas2 Regards, Bob
Agent M10 Posted December 9, 2018 Author Share #7 Posted December 9, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Yikes, I typed the post quickly on my phone and didn’t see the typo in the title. Decided to switch to the Ms for this trip. Still taking the William, but another water-resistant messenger bag (nylon) and an umbrella. LeicaR10 Posted December 9, 2018 Share #8 Posted December 9, 2018 Agent M10, I have three Oberwerth bags to include the William. I did treat my bag with beeswax as Sanokan suggested. I take my SL and M gear out in all types of weather to include rain, fog, wet snow etc.. I have never had a problem with the leather. Just remember to wipe the bag off and do not put the bag near a heat source to dry it like any leather product. Great bags. r/ Mark 1
rob_w Posted December 10, 2018 Share #9 Posted December 10, 2018 Oberwerth bags are beautifully made. I have the small one, the Bayreuth, for taking just the M and a lens. Never had a problem in any weather. My only disatisfaction is that the strap is just too short to wear cross-body and the internal pockets for passport and sd card catch on the camera when placing it in the bag. When I attempted to write to the company to provide this feedback - not as a complaint, simply as a suggestion - I discovered there is actually no way of communicating with them, which felt a little odd. tom0511 Posted December 10, 2018 Share #10 Posted December 10, 2018 for long and heavy rain I prefer bags with rain covers, but I dont think a short rain would be any problem for a Oberwerth bag ( I also own one for my M+3 lenses).

Ivar B Posted December 11, 2018 Share #12 Posted December 11, 2018 I don`t have any experience with the Oberwerth bags in the rain, but in general, they are first class products. I have one which fits the SL with 24-90 and 90-280, and it is made to a very high standard. Not cheap, but you fell it`s worth the price.
HeinzX Posted December 11, 2018 Share #13 Posted December 11, 2018 (edited) I have an Oberwerth for the SL. Regarding rain I see no problem, if it is not raining hours and hours like cats and dogs. Really water tight are the bags of König in Germany, I had one when I owned Leica Ms. The are producing a special version for the Leica S and can produce customized bags on request when contacted. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=klzU77xMGlc Edited December 11, 2018 by HeinzX
