pico Posted October 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted October 27, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) If there is a screw to fit in the hole beneath the chrome Leica M10's red dot - what is its size, metric? Too much to ask for? Edited October 27, 2018 by pico
Advertisement Posted October 27, 2018 Posted October 27, 2018 Hi pico, Take a look here Screw under red dot?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted October 27, 2018 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2018 If you ask Leica they may be able to provide you an M-10P replacement screw. At Leica New Jersey ask for, or send and email, to Dave Elwell.
dkmoore Posted October 27, 2018 Share #3 Posted October 27, 2018 The red dot circle is larger than the M 10P screw. Thus if you were able to get the screw it would leave a gap around the screw that I think would be ugly. Would probably still look better than tape on the silver camera. dkmoore Posted October 28, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 28, 2018 I think Pico (assuming anyway) wants the M10P look specifically with no Leica dot. I'd actually like this as well if it is available.
pico Posted October 28, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted October 28, 2018 (edited) Some misunderstanding. I wish to remove the red dot and place the appropriate screw in the hole underneath the dot. Edited October 28, 2018 by pico
TomB_tx Posted October 28, 2018 Share #7 Posted October 28, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I doubt if the hole is threaded on the covers not designed for the screw. Think of the pennies threading the hole would add to the manufacturing cost... Also, there would still be the circular recess where the dot fits in, which would look strange around the screw.
250swb Posted October 29, 2018 Share #8 Posted October 29, 2018 Cut the head off a slot headed set screw and glue it on, no need to find the right thread size.
feelssadman Posted October 29, 2018 Share #9 Posted October 29, 2018 (edited) Is anyone a 100% sure about what's under the Logo? I'd prefer the screw of the M10-P too. Edited October 29, 2018 by feelssadman

david strachan Posted October 29, 2018 Share #15 Posted October 29, 2018 I suspect it is the same screw hole vs red dot hole as my M-P 240. I wanted to go other way replacing my screw with a dot. Under the screw is totally different to the under dot. Under the screw is no foundation to hold a dot. So you won't be able to go the other way either. Hope you can understand my explanation. ... I think they use more adhesive for optimum weather sealing. It does twist off eventually......but at the cost of broken thumbnails
adan Posted October 30, 2018 Share #18 Posted October 30, 2018 Here's an image of what the standard M240 looks like with the red dot removed - big dot-sized depression in the metal, with a (probably plastic?) little black insert, and an unthreaded access hole in it. No screw at all. https://goo.gl/images/jn2yp4 The M8 and the film M6 had a sloppier big triangular access hole: https://goo.gl/images/TxvmXN The "red dot on the top-plate" Leicas have never had a screw in addition, AFAIK - the dot (black or red) is the only thing protecting the access hole. 2
Chaemono Posted October 30, 2018 Share #19 Posted October 30, 2018 It was too late for me when I realized this. After I managed to twist it off, I had to weather seal the big dot-sized depression with a piece of chewing gum. Switched to the M10-P now. Since Adobe doesn’t support that camera with their profiles, yet, I’m still waiting for Andy to send me his. 😉
