I've just received a positive response from Leica.  I had reported that <<I’m loosing connection to the camera very frequently when using remote control to take picture.<< and just got this response:

Dear Mr. Gore ,

Thanks for your feedback.
We are intensively working on the analysis of possible connection issues.
You can expect improvements with updates in the new future.
Thanks for your understanding and providing the feedback, it helps a lot to improve Leica FOTOS.

Sounds good.  Specially if "new future" is actually meant to be "near future" 😉

I have the same problem with you, I use my Leica Q with my ios12.0.1, it keeps disconnecting when using the remote. Before I saw this post, I thought it was my Leica Q problem, but now I think we just need to wait for the new updates.

I just downloaded 12.1 on my iPhone and on my iPad pro 12".   Fotos now appears to be very stable on the phone but hardly usable on the iPad. It just disconnects quickly.

The phone, on the other hand, remains connected, as hoped.

i tried 12.1 but the problem still happen

I’m still experimenting with FOTOS, but I’ve so far found it mostly working. I do not have a battery drain problem. Connecting seems straightforward and after the initial setup, it’s quite easy to re-connect. I turn Bluetooth on the camera off when I’m not using it. I turn Bluetooth on and then FOTOS connects easily. My frustration is FOTOS ignores manual settings on the camera and especially manual focus. It always auto-focuses. This completely defeats precise manual focus such as with Macro. FOTOS still needs work. I hope an update will soon fix these problems.

Has anyone with an SL or CL tried it in manual focus?

Well, I've changed my tune. FOTOS needs a lot of work to be ready for public use. I spent about 1 1/2 hours this morning attempting to photograph Hummingbirds exclusively using the FOTOS App. It was a very frustrating experience. The app is VERY poor at focusing on a moving object. Even when the focus field is right in the middle and right where the bird is. I was only successful when I had it focus on the feeder. Furthermore, the App reverts to some standard settings on regular basis if you do anything to change a setting or look at a photo. The fact that you cannot use manual focus is a severe restriction and totally unacceptable in my opinion. I'm not a rookie at this kind of photography and I had my Q for over three years before the Q2, so I consider myself fairly capable of using the camera. The FOTOS App. should be pulled from use and completely re-engineered to allow the user to make manual adjustments on the camera and not have those over-ridden in the App. Here's an example of a good image of which I got very few and one of a bad image of which I got many today. Leica I hope you are listening. You need to address the defects in the FOTOS App very quickly.

I can’t connect. It keeps showing the message “check camera wifi is turned on and try again”. Even if the iphone is already connected to the camera via settings/wifi. The old app (Leica Q) works flawlessly. Bummer.

Make sure you have the latest version of firmware installed.  I have not tried with the Q yet, but with an M10-P I had a very frustrating time till I thought of downloading and installing the new firmware.  With that done it was a very easy connection.

I agree with all the positive comments Infiniumguy lists above and fortunately have not suffered any break in connection.  Will check out more features tonight.  However one disappointment was the very slow transfer of DNG files to the iPhone.  This may be a WiFi speed limitation, but disappointing nonetheless.  I may use the app as a remote device and to transfer a few files occasionally, but you can forget about transferring a large number of files!

Actually, both (phone and camera) are with he latest OS/firmware. I had the same problem using the beta versions of Fotos. I have just sent a user feedback to Leica via app. Let’s see if there is a bug.

I have seen this over and over again when I have many many apps resident in memory but not active on the iPhone. Forced closing of all the apps and then clearing the RAM (procedure varies dependent upon model iPhone, but most with a Home button you press the power button until the option to quit appears, then you hold down the Home button until the display returns to normal) usually solves these sorts of problems.

My longest session yet using Leica FOTOs and the CL was capturing 490 Polaroid print images in a copy setup. I ran the whole thing from end to end with Leica FOTOs.

Using FOTOS with Macro mode. I’ve spent the last two days “playing” with the App both in normal and macro lens mode. I’ve discovered that switching to Macro (rotating the macro ring) does change the minimum focus distance in FOTOS just like when using the camera normally. There is no MACRO mode in the FOTOS App. The minimum focus distance is around 17cm in macro and 28cm in normal mode using the FOTOS App. The same distance when manually focusing or auto-focusing not using FOTOS.

So far this is the only case I’ve found where FOTOS does not overide the camera settings. I can suppose that lens elements are moved when selecting MACRO and that’s not possible except turning the macro ring on the lens.

So far I’ve not seen any indication of a focus field or point when in FOTOS. That would seem a missing element when using the App. Do we just assume center screen? That is where it does focus.
