I just ordered an M246.  I want to shoot a 35mm lens and really like the rendering of these photos:

I have a 35mm Summicron Asph and have heard that it is very high contrast and harsh on the M246.  Which 35mm lens would you recommend for sharpness at infinity for landscapes and with more gentle tones/less contrast?  Alternatively could I make the Asph work, or is it very prone to blowing high lights on the monochrom?

Of course you can manage highlights on the M246, at first sight, or quick and dirty, probably better than on the MM1. But I really don’t understand why you would want to, believe in and are inclined in the first place to rely on other peoples advice of what gear you should acquire or not. It’s time to grow up and do your own thing Csawp, get stubborn! How many times did you change gear last year? Did all the advices help to reduce these changes? I don’t believe so. And stop trying to copy other photographers’ ‘rendering’.

My M-246 images are very flat straight from the camera and require the addition of contrast during post processing for best results.  I don't find my 35 'Cron ASP particularly contrasty, certainly not harsh.

I love contrasty photos on my M246. My 35mm summicron doesn't appear to me to be any more contrasty than my other lenses...

My preference on the 246 is to use older lenses, pre aspherical versions.  My favorite is 50mm Summicron, but I also use 35mm Summicron v4.  It is super small and compact too.  Is a matter of taste.  The newer lenses are just too harsh for my tastes on this camera.
