david strachan Posted October 1, 2018 Share #5 Posted October 1, 2018 They look delicious...i love fresh apples. Supermarket apples come from cold storage, in a controlled gas atmosphere...they just don't taste the same. ...

I made an apple pie for a party a couple of years ago. Took about six hours start to finish. Never again. Now i just buy them from an Amish Baker at the market. Waaaayyy easier.

david strachan Posted October 9, 2018 Share #10 Posted October 9, 2018 (edited) Try this... 6-7 apples, peeled, cored and coarsed diced. Cook with cup brown sugar, lots of butter, moving them around until softish, and sugar is syrup. Add spices, cinnamon , cloves, if you like. Do this in a saucepan, or your 12" skillet. A sheet of puff pastry is put on top. Turn the pastry edges in at the edges, not over the skillet edges, s you will be inverting the tartin, out of the skillet, to serve. Cook in oven till pastry cooked. Turn it out by placing a plate on top of the skillet, invert. Be carefull juices don't run out everywhere...remember it is all very hot, so be carefull. Serve with thick cream, and/or icecream. About 40 mins all up...and 4 minutes to eat. Edited October 9, 2018 by david strachan

abrewer Posted October 10, 2018 Share #13 Posted October 10, 2018 When I lived in upstate New York this was the time of year that little roadside stands would pop up with bushel baskets full of wonderful fresh apples, locally grown. It's hard to beat fresh produce like this.
fotografr Posted October 10, 2018 Author Share #14 Posted October 10, 2018 I totally agree, Allan. Dave, I took the first step and printed out the recipe. Keep watching for a photo of the finished dish.
