RMF Posted June 21, 2022 Share #966 Posted June 21, 2022 (edited) Since I recently acquired a 1966 v1 transition brass infinity lock (#21667xx), I thought I should start contributing to this thread as well. Here are a few test shots I just I took in my garden to check everything out: focus is on the stick- Comparison of this Lux wide open at 1.4 and then same shot at 2.0 with an M10-R. Glowing goodness and a little vignetting out of this v1 when shooting wide open. I just love this little lens😀. Welcome, dear visitor! Dennis Posted June 23, 2022 Share #972 Posted June 23, 2022 (edited) How does the lux pre asph glow compare with the CV 35/1.4MC II? I read somewhere in the forum that they have a similar "look," apart from the signature style of each. My question is only glow-related. This picture was taken with the Nokton, wide open, of course. Could this be a lux? Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I ask because, as a 35mm lover, the candidates to join the family in the future are this Lux, the Pre-Fle, and the Cron v4. I have no interest in other 35 lenses. . I read somewhere in the forum that they have a similar "look," apart from the signature style of each. My question is only glow-related. See post #258 on the previous page (13) of this thread (with comparison pix). Short answer, the Leitz (v2) has more obvious glow - the Leitz v1 (pre-1968-sh) may have even more. "Glow" meaning a halo around things that are in focus, not in the bokeh. Either Leitz/Leica will also have less overall contrast than your example (much older coatings) - but the CV S.C. might come closer to the Leicas. 5

I have the CV 35/1.4 SCII, and I had the opportunity to compare it to a pre-asph Lux. The Voigtlander is similar but far from identical. As @adan has pointed out, the glow of the Leica lens is much more pronounced, the coma is stronger while the contrast is stronger on the Voigt. For me it was a pretty tough decision, but in the end I opted for the Voigtlander lens. Why, you ask. Well, because of the price difference and because the Voigtlander is much more predictable. Yes, it has some vintage vibes, especially at f1.4, but other than that it’s a wonderful modern, small lens with some character without being a one-trick Pony.

The 35 Lux pre-ASPH is also not a single-strength lens. It takes extremely sharp photos at f/8 for landscape – all but the tiniest sliver along the corners, which disappears with some distortion correction and very mild crop. Maybe not all copies/versions of the pre-ASPH perform equally at infinity, though. The biggest limitation of the pre-ASPH, IMO, is the minimum focusing distance when used on an M body.

Are you serious in suggesting that the c.1960 - 1995 Summilux is a "one-trick pony"? Philip.
