This thread is like a love letter to the pre asph and a great advert too! It is also a great resource on the different models/batches etc. I've learnt a lot reading these 100 or so pages. Looking forward to testing it out these next few days.

It got as far as UPS, they demanded some documentation from the sender and now 24hrs later it’s on the way back to sender 😞 Also, marginal VAT rate? I take it I get whacked with the full amount when it hits the UK even though from EU? Assuming of course it ever arrives. Seems the Leica stores have the same service ethos as head office. I wrote over the weekend, yesterday and today. I watched the UPS delivery go back to the store and be signed for. Not a single reply to me, apology, plan for re-posting. Zip. It didn't get anywhere near that stage. It moved about in Germany, went from one store to UPS. UPS asked *the store* for some details, none came and they then sent it to an entirely different store in Germany. All I could do was watch the tracking passively! It's now being sent from the 'wrong store' to the 'correct store' and will then be sent out to me again! When it reaches UK customs clearance is the point where UPS send me the email regarding VAT and import duty. It would have been easier, cheaper and quicker for me to have flown over and collect personally. Edit-> If bought on site or from an EU country would additional VAT be payable on a 'marginal rate' item? I suspect the marginal rate status has confused UPS, it's certainly confusing me as I can't help but wonder whether the VAT on a marginal rate item is as described paid by the store on the margin between purchase and sale price and therefore as the end purchaser the VAT element has been paid and only import duty on optics is outstanding? VAT margin schemes tax the difference between what you paid for an item and what you sold it for, which is not your problem apparently. When UK was still in Europe, you would have paid the German rate of VAT in Germany and no additional tax in UK. Now you're supposed to pay no VAT in Germany and pay the British VAT rate in UK. But the lens won't be delivered to you as long as the British VAT won't be paid to the UK customs or UPS anyway. I don't live in UK but i suppose UPS warns you that the item is ready for delivery and they send you an invoice of British VAT to be paid previously. Just a guess though.

Emtsoh Posted February 18, 2024 Share #2038 Posted February 18, 2024 the more I see images from this lens, the more I like it. Had the chance to get one copy (SN299 - Canada) and I am always impressed from it. Perhaps one of the best choice with a film camera (at least for me).
