poli Posted July 17, 2021 Share #386 Posted July 17, 2021 Would Using the pre asph summilux 35 on an m10-d without 6bit coding give issues other than no exif lens information? I am on the fence of buying a 35 summilux to replace my V6 cron but in doubt.
AndreasG Posted July 17, 2021 Share #387 Posted July 17, 2021 Advertisement (gone after registration) I often use a pre ASPH Summilux 35 (1989) with my M10-D, plenty of such photos here in the forum. The optical pros/cons of this lens are well known, I can live with that, the missing EXIF information is not important for me. 1

Now if "v6" is the current Summicron 35/2 asph, you may miss it soon or late if you like contrast and acutance in photography. FWIW.

It’s one of the reasons i am still in doubt (indeed I have the current cron). Plus 1 mtr minimal focus distance. Don’t really like that. Maybe I should wait for availability of the apo 😉

Now if "v6" is the current Summicron 35/2 asph, you may miss it soon or late if you like contrast and acutance in photography. FWIW. With the M9, there was a clearly visible "Italian Flag" color drift at the long ends of the frame using an uncoded (and uncodable) 35 Summilux pre-ASPH. Blue/purple at left, green on the right. I agree the new "tall" microlenses on the M10 CMOS sensors (and probably M240) will likely reduce that all by themselves (and of course an M8 or CL will crop most of it away ), without coding or menu selection. But with the proverbial "white wall" or a snowy landscape, there may still be a visible amount. M9, 2009, 35 Summilux pre-ASPH. Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted July 17, 2021 Share #391 Posted July 17, 2021 My feeling is 6-bit coding does not correct for anything on the Summilux 35/1.4 pre-asph but i may be wrong.
adan Posted July 17, 2021 Share #392 Posted July 17, 2021 (edited) My knowledge is that the 35 pre-ASPH cannot actually be 6-bit coded at all (except by heroic measures like taking a machine-tool to the lens mount ). But that selecting it (or the optically-very-similar 35 Summicron v.4) from the manual lens menu does make a major correction for Italian Flag and general vignetting. Would you have pics showing this by chance? Just curious as i have never seen that so far but again i may be wrong.

grahamc Posted July 21, 2021 Share #395 Posted July 21, 2021 (edited) Hey pre-asph team, Has anyone tried both the black and Titanium pre-asph v2's ? I'm wondering I there is a weight difference (I assume yes) , and whether it's significant ? I briefly had a black version however it has had to go back under PayPal 'not as described' unfortunately. Since then I've purchased a titan M6 TTL so am open to both colour lenses - but not if the titan is much heavier. Although I think the black is only 195g so I'm not sure even a heavier titan would actually be 'heavy'. I can't find any weight info online for the titan Cheers!
