As you wrote knowing the lenses is the key, so testing is fine but taking pictures of real world would be productive (or not ! ). 🤥 As I learn over time, even same 35mm Summilux-M type but different lens can behave quite differently, have a look at Steven many threads. Absolutely agree ! Testing my copies satisfied my curiosity as much as anything else, after reading so much. There's a lot more joy to be had in using them for actual photography, that's for sure Edited July 4, 2021 by grahamc typing 1

I think I'm really going to enjoy this lens . Didn't really experience any particularly unruly flaring on the test run. Overall definitely fits the look I was hoping to get when acquiring this lens Planning to do some pretty rudimentary side by sides with my Summicron v4 later to compare performance if anyone's interested I can share . Will be a very DIY approach I'm definitely not a lens tester. Mainly I'm interested to see sharpness and contrast of my own copies stopped down past F2 etc Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Do you use a filter or hood which has two dark zones at bottom corners ? I think that the focus area has something to be learned (to better use of this lovely lens) : ... the shoe is not "in focus" ( if you RF focus on it I think as the background is blurry ! ), because of field curvature of the Summilux, something to 'play with' nice idea though, good pic as it is, of course
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! I did indeed miss focus on this photo and it's funny I was going to write that in my reply to @ianman Since this was the first day I received the lens - I was shooting the lens very loosely in this location as I was mostly excited to have a lot of test shots and variety to see later how glowy (or otherwise) it is. So I think I'd been working on a zone focus basis. Sounds strange to have a 'quantity not quality' approach to a photo walk, but that's kinda how I was feeling that day and I just wanted a bunch of stuff to look at later, and see if I got any flare , etc etc Now, you are absolutely right because this shot was a little different - once I'd seen and taken it, I thought "mmmm that's actually got the makings of a pretty nice shot" . I realised I was probably too close to the shoe for it to fall into 'zone' so I tuned in the focus and shot 2 more. When I got home the in-focus versions lacked the charm of this one (I quite like the swimmers arm and distance into the scene) . My casualness on this walk aside, I'm sure focussing at 1.4 is going to be a challenging though - Next time I go out with the lens I'll look forward to being a bit more attentive and see how it goes (the lens is off for a check over at the moment). I'm always open for feedback though and appreciate it - I'm new to Rangefinders (and relatively new to photography in general really). I didn't have a hood on though - would the fact that the lens is wide open be the cause of the vignette ? I can't say for sure that I didn't add it in post also as I'm not on the same device now that I edit on. Edited July 6, 2021 by grahamc
