PDP Posted August 12, 2018 Share #1 Â Posted August 12, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, I noticed the same Banding-Issue as with the early Leica Q, when increasing contrast (eg tonal contrast with NIK) I notice a reasonable Banding often in the sky. Several darker resp lighter areas create a kind of star from the top center of the picture. My M does not show that and for the Q it wa solved with an software update. Am I alone with that issue, any solution known? I currently reduce contrast and sharpness within the blue sky, but that is not really a solution. Thanks in advance Philipp

jaapv Posted August 12, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted August 12, 2018 What postprocessing software are you using? If you use 8 bits you will always see banding in the situation you describe.
PDP Posted August 12, 2018 Author Share #3 Â Posted August 12, 2018 What postprocessing software are you using? If you use 8 bits you will always see banding in the situation you describe. Â Merci Jaap for fast response! Â I use LR 7,4, 16bit, and i use NIK as plug in. Â I have to say that I do not have this banding effect when shooting with the m240 and with Fuji x100F. Â I had exactly the same with the Leica Q, it was solved after a software update by Leica (banding was widely discussed in the Q Forum). ramarren Posted August 12, 2018 Share #5  Posted August 12, 2018 i have not seen any banding at all. I never use NIK or any other plug-ins;  i can't tell what they're doing. they seem a waste of time and money—since LR does everything i need already, i avoid them.  i can make any and every camera's captures show weird artifacts if i twist up the adjustments enough. i avoid doing that... LocalHero1953 Posted August 12, 2018 Share #7 Â Posted August 12, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use Nik and I don't get banding. Â To OP: post some examples, together with exposure and processing details. It's impossible to offer advice without this.
