I just got my first M9, having previously owned an M240 and M10. My camera just returned from Leica where it got a new sensor. I have a question about the shutter release. When I press it down to the first stop it doesn't lock the exposure. If I press harder it sort of grinds/clicks to yet another stop at which point the exposure is locked. Then if I finish pressing down it takes the photo. Is this normal, or is the exposure supposed to lock at the first stop like it does on the newer M cameras?

There are 3 different switches activated as the M9 release is pressed. The first is hard to detect, but it wakes the circuits from sleep mode. The second is the firmest, and mine has a distinct click feel (not sound) as it hits a resistance and then jumps through it. This one locks the exposure. Last, of course, trips the shutter.

My M10 has lighter, smoother, and shorter throw than my M9.
