Csacwp Posted July 31, 2018 Share #1 Posted July 31, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just got my first M9, having previously owned an M240 and M10. My camera just returned from Leica where it got a new sensor. I have a question about the shutter release. When I press it down to the first stop it doesn't lock the exposure. If I press harder it sort of grinds/clicks to yet another stop at which point the exposure is locked. Then if I finish pressing down it takes the photo. Is this normal, or is the exposure supposed to lock at the first stop like it does on the newer M cameras?

Robert M Poole Posted July 31, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 31, 2018 I don't think any shutter release should grind...
TomB_tx Posted August 1, 2018 Share #3 Posted August 1, 2018 There are 3 different switches activated as the M9 release is pressed. The first is hard to detect, but it wakes the circuits from sleep mode. The second is the firmest, and mine has a distinct click feel (not sound) as it hits a resistance and then jumps through it. This one locks the exposure. Last, of course, trips the shutter. My M10 has lighter, smoother, and shorter throw than my M9.
Csacwp Posted August 1, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted August 1, 2018 Ok, I think mine is fine then.
AceVentura1986 Posted August 1, 2018 Share #5 Posted August 1, 2018 Yes, it’s three distinct switches. FWIW, my ME is a bit stiffer than my MM1.
Topsy Posted August 3, 2018 Share #6 Posted August 3, 2018 I've 3 M9s they all differ in the amount of initial pressure needed to activate the meter but all are definitely 3 distinct stages. No grinding though.
chris_livsey Posted August 10, 2018 Share #7 Posted August 10, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) If the first stop is not activating shutter lock have you checked you are not set to DISCRETE release, that does not lock the exposure setting, that first stop is very soft on that setting though so if that is not the case the camera needs attention? Ko.Fe. Posted August 11, 2018 Share #8 Posted August 11, 2018 My 2015 M-E while on Manhattan 2017 trip started to act with little bit of grind. Or maybe it was first time I noticed it.
