LCD/EVF Intermittent Problem

Been using the CL for 3-4 weeks, and really love it. All was working well. I upgraded the firmware a week or so ago, all seemed fine, and then took the camera away with me for a week. A persistent, if intermittent fault appears to have developed where the LCD stops working after a shot or two and the EVF is the only way to see things. If I turn the camera off and back on, the screen works again. Sometimes for a long time until turned off, and sometimes after a couple of shots we’re back to EVF only. No idea if this is linked to the upgrade, but does anyone else have experience of this?

You could try cleaning the EVF glass, in particular the little sqare bit athe top which covers the eye sensor. I think this has been discussed recently.

Thank you. Just spotted the discussion in the (not) obviously titled ‘I love my CL’ thread! Tried with a cloth and issue is still there, although possibly a bit less often. Will need to get one of the microbrushes mentioned.

You know the camera can enter in sleep mode after 10 seconds of inactivity since the firmware update. I would check if this new feature could be the culprit.

I don’t think it is. I can take one photo and then everything is showing only in the EVF, menus and everything else. It’s not asleep. But helpful to know there are other quirks coming with the new firmware, thanks.

Thank you but this is not a quirk, just a useful feature, for me at least, since the new sleep mode can be disabled at will. It does no harm to check if yours is disabled IMHO.

I’ve looked, but can’t see a 10s option. The 3 options for Auto Off are 30s, 1m and 5m. These are under the power saving menu. Where would the 10s option be? Thank you.

I have not my CL with me but there are four options actually. The one i'm referring to is the first (top) option in the list. I would disable it and see what happens.

I’ve checked again on that menu - no 10s option there. But perhaps you’re referring to a different menu. I’m definitely on 2.0 firmware.

It doesn't say 10s IIRC, just power saving - select that, then on or off

Found it, thank you.  It was already turned 'off' so this wasn't it.  But helpful to know the option is there.  Having cleaned the EVF, especially the little window at the top, the problem seems to have gone away - so a physical issue rather than related to firmware or electrics.  Fingers crossed all is well.  Thanks to all three of you for your help.

I have exactly the same problem so would be keen to know if anyone has found a solution.

Well, I think that keeping the ocular clean is a pretty good solution - and of course use the LCD when you are weeping...

This problem became chronic with my CL, tried Q-Tips, glasses cleaner on a micro fiber cloth, just as it was becoming a pain there was a thread about using Eclipse with a micro brush, worked the first time for 2 days then it was back to just having the EVF. Sent the camera to Leica, they replaced the sensor, but also said it was dirty, tried everything to clean it. Camera has been great since.
