kentishrev Posted July 7, 2018 Share #1  Posted July 7, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Been using the CL for 3-4 weeks, and really love it. All was working well. I upgraded the firmware a week or so ago, all seemed fine, and then took the camera away with me for a week. A persistent, if intermittent fault appears to have developed where the LCD stops working after a shot or two and the EVF is the only way to see things. If I turn the camera off and back on, the screen works again. Sometimes for a long time until turned off, and sometimes after a couple of shots we’re back to EVF only. No idea if this is linked to the upgrade, but does anyone else have experience of this?
Advertisement Posted July 7, 2018 Posted July 7, 2018 Hi kentishrev, Take a look here LCD/EVF Intermittent Problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
ayewing Posted July 7, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted July 7, 2018 You could try cleaning the EVF glass, in particular the little sqare bit athe top which covers the eye sensor. I think this has been discussed recently.
kentishrev Posted July 7, 2018 Author Share #3  Posted July 7, 2018 Thank you. Just spotted the discussion in the (not) obviously titled ‘I love my CL’ thread! Tried with a cloth and issue is still there, although possibly a bit less often. Will need to get one of the microbrushes mentioned.
lct Posted July 8, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted July 8, 2018 You know the camera can enter in sleep mode after 10 seconds of inactivity since the firmware update. I would check if this new feature could be the culprit.
kentishrev Posted July 8, 2018 Author Share #5  Posted July 8, 2018 I don’t think it is. I can take one photo and then everything is showing only in the EVF, menus and everything else. It’s not asleep. But helpful to know there are other quirks coming with the new firmware, thanks.
lct Posted July 8, 2018 Share #6  Posted July 8, 2018 Thank you but this is not a quirk, just a useful feature, for me at least, since the new sleep mode can be disabled at will. It does no harm to check if yours is disabled IMHO.
kentishrev Posted July 8, 2018 Author Share #7  Posted July 8, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’ve looked, but can’t see a 10s option. The 3 options for Auto Off are 30s, 1m and 5m. These are under the power saving menu. Where would the 10s option be? Thank you.
lct Posted July 8, 2018 Share #8 Â Posted July 8, 2018 I have not my CL with me but there are four options actually. The one i'm referring to is the first (top) option in the list. I would disable it and see what happens.
kentishrev Posted July 8, 2018 Author Share #9  Posted July 8, 2018 I’ve checked again on that menu - no 10s option there. But perhaps you’re referring to a different menu. I’m definitely on 2.0 firmware.
danielfrimley Posted July 8, 2018 Share #10 Â Posted July 8, 2018 It doesn't say 10s IIRC, just power saving - select that, then on or off
kentishrev Posted July 9, 2018 Author Share #11  Posted July 9, 2018 Found it, thank you. It was already turned 'off' so this wasn't it. But helpful to know the option is there. Having cleaned the EVF, especially the little window at the top, the problem seems to have gone away - so a physical issue rather than related to firmware or electrics. Fingers crossed all is well. Thanks to all three of you for your help.
DJGR33R Posted September 12, 2018 Share #12  Posted September 12, 2018 I have exactly the same problem so would be keen to know if anyone has found a solution.  Regards  David
jaapv Posted September 12, 2018 Share #13 Â Posted September 12, 2018 Well, I think that keeping the ocular clean is a pretty good solution - and of course use the LCD when you are weeping...
SugarBubble Posted July 19, 2019 Share #14  Posted July 19, 2019 just experienced this problem myself. cleaned the eyepiece, problem solved. Many thanks. Trevor.
tommonego@gmail.com Posted July 19, 2019 Share #15 Â Posted July 19, 2019 This problem became chronic with my CL, tried Q-Tips, glasses cleaner on a micro fiber cloth, just as it was becoming a pain there was a thread about using Eclipse with a micro brush, worked the first time for 2 days then it was back to just having the EVF. Sent the camera to Leica, they replaced the sensor, but also said it was dirty, tried everything to clean it. Camera has been great since.
