And the last one. This was mid-morning, an iconic railway station (for me) and try as I did I found it hard to tame the saturation of the colours. It reminded me of using a polarising filter (nothing used for this shot though).

X1Dii and R-21~35 at about 28mm.

Are you using the Hasselblad's in camera crop to square to remove the vignetting?

No Wilson. I didn't even think about that to be honest, but might try it now you've jogged the memory. I simply crop it slightly in post-processing.

I just came across this thread. Thank you!! The images are very inspiring. I feel like I'm coming through the back door into the Leicasphere with an R4s and a 50mm Summicron. This week added a Vario-Elmar-R 4/70-210mm. Now I just need to get out and USE THEM ;)

Angénieux 35-70mm R f2.5-3.3 R lens (c. 1980s) / Leica CL / URTH R to L adapter / Berlebach MULDA Mini Wooden Tripod with levelling head / Lastolite reflector.

Laney Leica Collectors' Guide 2nd Edition page 320 illustrates only the 'complex' 15 element Angénieux Zoom 45-90mm f2.8 R lens which also appears in the Leica Pocket Books. However, Laney also 'describes' two other Angénieux R zoom lenses as follows:

"It appears that two other Angénieux zoom lenses were supplied in Leica mounts, but not catalogued by Leitz, and may only have been sold in the American market. These were a 35-70mm, f3.5 and a 70-210mm f3.5. There were also two fixed focus lenses: a 180mm f2.3 Apo and a 200mm f2.8"

Furthermore, Erwin Puts Leica Lens Compendium 1st Edition states on page 36 when discussing Leitz' early strategies ref zoom lenses and Angénieux:

"The company offered three versions: 1:2.8 / 45-90mm, 1:2.5 35-70mm and 1:3.5/ 70-210mm. The cooperation was quite limited. Leitz allowed Angénieux to use the bayonet-mount of the Leicaflex and promoted the sales of these lenses".

Puts also writes in more detail ref Leitz' 'concerns' ref the 'bulk' and 'optical quality' of zoom lenses in 1969 – prior to the adoption of Minolta zoom designs.

Whatever Leitz' views in the late 1960s, nowadays the Angénieux R zooms are very sought after and command premium prices.

If anyone is seeking an Angenieux 45-90mm R lens, Ffordes lists same in their eBay stock as a BIN.

Just acquired an ELMARIT-R 180mm f/2.8 to  use in my SL2-S. It’s heavy no doubt. Over 5 lbs with the camera. But the images are fairly sharp. Color is on the warmer side.

Another astro orientated image.

I used the R 100mm macro apo, with a dedicated cooled astro camera.

40 images each 180 seconds at f3.5. Stacked etc with SIRIL (astro software).

In reality it could do with another few hours, but I was happy enough with this, and will shoot some more astro images with this same setup in the coming months.
