Advertisement Posted July 15, 2007 Posted July 15, 2007 Hi vic vic, Take a look here Fun time: Whats in the bag now. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
gerasdoc Posted July 15, 2007 Share #142 Posted July 15, 2007 As a result of reading this and other forums I have recently acquired the following: M8, M6 MATE WATE/Frankenfinder 24 elmarit Asph 28 cron Asph 35 cron Asph Noctilux 75 cron Asph 90 macro with adapter 135 3.4 APO Taking the MATE, WATE, and 90 with the M8 to Greece and Turkey in a few weeks. I would have to get divorced to take more than that. I had a 21 elmarit asph, but sold it after getting the WATE.
stunsworth Posted July 15, 2007 Share #143 Posted July 15, 2007 Barry, if I were you I'd leave the 90 at home and take the Nocti for night shots and low light shots in general. I've been to Greece/Turkey probably over 30 times and I wouldn't want my fastest lens to be f4. Feel free to disagree.
adan Posted July 16, 2007 Share #144 Posted July 16, 2007 Okay, now you have me curious. In what way do the 28 Cron Asph , 50 Lux Asph and Apo 75 Cron Asph not fit the M8? These are some of the best lenses in the lineup, and the M8 extracts more of their sharpness than a film M. Carsten, You'll note my statement had 3 parts - WHAT I shoot and HOW I shoot play a role here, not just the absolute qualities of these 3 lenses. They may fit the M8 for lots of people - just not for me (at least yet). 75 - I always found myself wanting either longer tele effect (quote-perspective-unquote) and framing (a 90), or easier fast focusing at f/2 (a 50). Plus the 75 framelines in the M8 are both too minimalist, and the least accurate at longer distances (since the 75 focuses so close relative to its focal length). The 75 'cron I liked a lot on 24 x 36 - but with the M8 crop a 50 'cron fills that 75 role of fast short portrait/detail tele better for me. 50 1.4 - the 50s I often use as tight as possible - in the <1 meter range...and the ASPH 1.4 still suffers a bit in the really close range compared to the 'cron, based on my shots, despite the fact that it is pretty amazing at longer distances. 28 - In this case it was purely ergonomics. I wanted that M-sized 35mm-equivalent feel, especially with a lens shade mounted. Size was more important than speed. Thus the Elmarit rather than the 'cron. I reserve the right to change my mind at any time, however

Ecaton Posted July 16, 2007 Share #149 Posted July 16, 2007 in the small bag........... i call it my photographic swiss knife bag............ . especially important that i dont go out without are the following : ......... Just for curiosity, how many filters, SD cards, film rolls, batteries, chargers would you throw into the "small bag" and what kind of bag(s) would that be. Oh, and by the way, how much does all this stuff weight?
vic vic Posted July 16, 2007 Share #150 Posted July 16, 2007 hi ecaton........ hahahhaha no im not using SD cards with M8......... i prefer to stick inside it some TRI--X film ........ so i carry alot of it.............SD cards are great for the titanium M ...... i will defenetly buy them when i get the titanium......... it weights ok...... no worries......... but have you thought about it?? sometimes people call a travel ste...... and i bet that a linhof master tech "not so minimalistic" set is much lighter ) the truth is that whatever situation is it............ in small set that i usually use........ mp 50 and one or two of the films ..... more than enough when im "in the mood of photography"........ a set of one or two more lenses and more film in bag - i concider it as real "photo-senssion" ) ................................... but then................ Guest malland Posted July 16, 2007 Share #151 Posted July 16, 2007 vic vic: I think that your posts here are perfect because I always thought that this as surrealist, or at least the theatre of the absurd. That one of the longest and most heavily participated threads on LUF should be a "consumerist special" is somehow fititng and proper, isn't it? —Mitch/Potomac, MD http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
plasticman Posted July 16, 2007 Share #152 Posted July 16, 2007 Ecaton - I think you'll find that vic was 'pulling your leg' just a little with his list - made me laugh anyway! Obviously, while it's fun to amass a vast collection of lenses, there's no arguing with the fact that more lenses don't necessarily make you a better photographer - on the other hand, this is a Leica forum, and there'll always be a fair proportion of 'gear-heads' who hang here talking about the finer points of their lenses instead of going-out and actually taking photographs... Each to his own.
Guest malland Posted July 16, 2007 Share #153 Posted July 16, 2007 Sure, Mani, but for eight pages? —Mitch/Potomac, MD http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
tom0511 Posted July 16, 2007 Share #154 Posted July 16, 2007 I would assume that 90% of Leica-photographer do not only use Leica because of the optical quality of lenses. IMO, more or less, the typical Leica-shooter also enjoys the mechanical quality and feel of the products. I guess nobody here is saying that you NEED more than one 50mm lens, but there might be people here who say "I can see slight differences in the character and its fun for me to experiment". People pay thousands for cars, watches, playing golf or whatever. Why not spend money for lenses if you enjoy it. The most enjoyable things in my life have been things where I could say:"I dont need to but I just can do it if I like to" I am sure a used Bessa+CV-lens can do the same as a Leica MP. But would it be as much fun? Some people have fun talking /chatting about gear, some enjoy buying gear, others enjoy shooting test images, others are just interested in the final image, others are perfectionists. Some people here sound like "just limit yourself to one body and max. 2 lenses and this alone will make you a better photographer".
Guest guy_mancuso Posted July 16, 2007 Share #155 Posted July 16, 2007 But Mitch it is also eight pages of folks having some fun too , so that IMHO has to be a important part of any community to make it work and let's face it we did not just buy leica gear just to shoot it we bought it to enjoy it and talk about it too. Deep down inside no matter what we think 100 percent of us are proud owners of leica gear for some reason or another or else we would not be here in the first place. Now Victors list just about scared me into a coma. LOL Now that was entertaining
Guest malland Posted July 16, 2007 Share #156 Posted July 16, 2007 Hey, I'm not for censorship — even of (indecent) equipment lists! I was just surpsised, and amused, that people take this "fun" so seriously. —Mitch/Potomac, MD http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/
Guest guy_mancuso Posted July 16, 2007 Share #157 Posted July 16, 2007 I think indecent is a great word . We are sick people. LOL I think we need some free shrink service around here. ROTFLMAO i will volunteer to be the first patient. I have a nasty lens habit. My wife would be so happy.
Guest malland Posted July 16, 2007 Share #158 Posted July 16, 2007 But wait until we start speaking about "indecent exposure" — after all this is a photography forum. —Mitch/Potoamac, MD http://www.flickr.com/photos/10268776@N00/

vic vic Posted July 16, 2007 Share #160 Posted July 16, 2007 mitch ......... the big absurd is not what people list ......... the big absurd is what people think that those list "imply to" ............ the big theater of absurd is that people really think that it will make photos better...... and the comfirmation for it is their posts that many think are great just because they are made with one of the gadgets from the list................ otherwise...... with some understand in photography and some respect to it, at least half of the images wouldnot be even "dowloaded from the camera" not to mention that would not even concidered to be taken from the first place................ when i say wwww IMHO degeneratography - this is one of the things i mean (not the only but one of them)........ the illusion that comes from ignorance that images are good only because the list is good and concequntly - these images become the point of referance for "good photography" in many cases.................. now about fun ............ good fancy stuff ................ of course........... i have good fancy stuffff.......... super lebeled fashionable cloths......... watch................ etc etc................ and i will tell u even more......... i have a tennis raquite like patric rafter (twice US OPEN chempion)......... do i concider myself as good player ???????????? do i concider anything i do on the court as "fine example of tenssi game" ??? im just having fun (and i do know to play , though not like patric rafter)............. i do not pretend myself what i am not ................. and honestly, when i dont play regularly, it is real pain (i mean real physical pain) to play with that raqute..... i would eassily take a simplier and more forgiving "graffit classic" instead of "response" raquite )
