I would love to have some changes in focusing system in your next firmware. I am sure it would be extremely helpful for many of us.

It would be very helpful if the focus area would return automatically to the center after each shot - or at least when turning the camera off.

As it is now, staying at the same place as in the last shot, it becomes extremely confusing when you shoot fast and have no time to bring it to the center, or forget to bring it to the center for the next shot.

I would really appreciate if Leica takes this issue under very serious consideration.

Most all the cameras I've used do this with adapted lenses all the time, and there are many complaints about that too.

I suspect that what's needed is

  1. a way to define the "home" focus point
  2. a way to define whether to return to it after each shot or to stay where the user set the focus point until told to go home
  3. a way to get to the "home" focus point with a simple action

That's what Olympus provides in the E-M1 and others of their cameras. It adds some complexity to the menus and setup configurations, but it turns out to be a very useful set of features.

The most elegant solution would be to use the center button of the four arrows:

Short press - lock in present position

Long press - centre and lock

Second short press - unlock

Second long press - unlock and return to previous position.

That should not be too hard to implement.

No offense Louis but I would sell my camera immediately if it did that...

And double tapping the screen takes the focus point straight back to the center. Not really that hard.

Actually it would be great if the focus point stays (locked) on the desired part of the frame with a short (or half) press and we didn't have to keep our finger half pressed during the whole shoot!... I had that on my Nikon camera with with pressing on the FN button and it was really very helpful. We have a FN button on CL that I still don't know the exact useful function, and I wish it was possible for us to assign that function to it!... I don't know if it is technically possible to do that in a firmware?

I never use the screen, and I would keep my camera with more pleasure if it did that.... We all have different ways of shooting and it would be nice if we had the choice of programing our camera the way that would be more comfortable and more convenient to us.

No disagreement on this.

I see this remaining the default behavior though.  The SL works in exactly the same way (and doesn't even have the double tap) and the Fuji's I previously owned also (with a more straightforward way to center the focus point again).

However, many of us don't use the screen when shooting. Mine is turned off permanently. The problem arises when you use the arrow buttons for positioning the focus point, especially when you have brushed the arrow buttons when carrying the camera. If you use spot focus, like I do, you really have to search the EVF to find that little cross hiding in a corner somewhere.

So a menu option (On/Off) that re-centers the focus point when you turn on the camera, would that work for everybody?

I use spot focus as well.  FWIW, the Leica T had a (resizable) rectangle.  I very much preferred that to the little cross of the CL, much clearer, at least to me...

Only moderately so. I normally don't switch the camera off when walking with it.

I would like a menu option to lock focus point that stays locked until deliberately

unlocked. It is too easy to press buttons accidentally when handling this

otherwise superb camera.

The latest SL firmware has some locking functions to keep things like the focus point from drifting.  But unfortunately they keep everything locked. That's not what I wanted so I shut that stuff off and still have to hunt for the focus point at times.  With the CL, I HATE the touch sensitive function that locks the right wheel, as I touch it from time to time, and have to go into the menu to turn it back on.  Don't know why that is needed -- I should be able to touch it back on, but can't seem to.  Anyway, I would like to selectively lock functions, not lose them all at the same time.  So before the next CL firmware upgrade makes it out to us, I hope this gets a more subtle approach than the SL took.

You can turn this off in the main menu.

I'll check, but I don't think so.  Where?  I don't have the camera with me, but as I recall there are two choices for each "wheel lock" ON or OFF on page 4 of the menus.  I suppose I could turn off all touch functions, but then I can't double tap to recenter the lost focus point.  Is that what you had in mind?

No, I mean deselect the function in the "customize controls" section of the top menu. In the "Favorites" submenu you can set "lock right wheel in live view" to "off".
