M8 with Voigt 28mm f1.9 focusing issue

I have M8 with voigtlander 28mm f1.9 LTM with focusing problem ( back focus ). When I place an object ( eg 2 meters from camera), the lens mark distance is correctly in 2 m after I focus. But the picture result is back focus. Does anyone know what the problem is ? Thank you in advance

Welcome to the forum. If your M8 focuses normally with M lenses, the problem may come from your LTM to M adapter. Which brand is yours?

I have one Kipon and one Metabone adapter with no focusing problems but the 6 bit coding of the Metabone doesn't work and both are difficult to unscrew from my LTM lenses so i use preferably adapters made by Leica or Voigtlander which are generally recommended by M users. Those are not the least expensive adapters though.

It sounds as if you're zone focussing when you say "the lens mark distance is correctly in 2 m after I focus" rather than using the rangefinder/viewfinder.  I would not personally expect the distance markings on the lens to be particularly accurate for even a Leica M-mount lens but when you throw another manufacturer's lens (Voigtlander) and a M-LTM adaptor into the mix then I would expect the accuracy to decrease further.

 

You can easily check the accuracy of the lens markings by setting your camera on a tripod, measuring 2 metres with a measuring tape and using the RF/VF to focus at that point.  If the distance marking on your lens also says 2m then - great, but if not then the markings are off.

 

I've had the Voigtlander 28/1.9 (and M8's) for many years and I haven't noticed back focus on mine.  I would normally expect most, if not all, back focus issues to be hidden by the 28 mm lens's natural depth of field anyway.

My 28/1.9 has never had any issues like that, on M3 and M6ttl. And I have used it by zone focussing using the dof scales and hard infinity stop on those two, and also on Sony and Fuji cameras too after getting the adapters to the right thickness by shimming. Its not a lens known for any such problems, or even focus shift. I always use Leica or Voigtlander l39 to M adapters too, the only 2 others I have had were not good for various reasons.
