I've got nothing to add right now, but this thread has fallen very far and folks might forget about it, so this is just a bump.

I for one am not in favour of generic threads, ie....Show-us-your..... buses/roofs/dogs etc....need I go on?

IMVHO ones treasured image can be swallowed up, never to be seen again.

I much prefer one thread for one image, it's acceptance or otherwise can then be accurately judged.

There are some staggering images on this thread, that IMO would have faired better with their own thread.

Just my 2p's worth.

Dave,

I humbly disagree, I think far fewer images would be put out if there was a single image (or a group of images) from one person. I enjoy seeing what others are doing, good or bad. I would also not put out an image I am trying something new on in an individual thread. I see many images getting a good number of likes which shows some traffic. On DRP they encourage single image threads and I often see images with no response. Most of us are not Ansel Adams or Gary Winogrand so a little encouragement helps.

Thought I'd revive this thread, 'cause I have a new macro lens a 105mm Micro-Nikkor. Cranked it to a full 1:2 mag for this shot, focusing on the parts of a geranium that you don't normally see.

Green tree frog from a trip to Costa Rica, yes it was in an exhibit, it is live and a guide woke it up. Acting just like I do when someone wakes me up unexpectedly.

CL 105mm Micro Nikkor, the lens is a little heavy, but the working distance is great.

Unfortunately this is when you can find them in the wild, CL 105mm Micro Nikkor, ISO 3200, 1/30 of a second, illuminated with my head lamp. Motion blur etc., our guide was adamant about not using flash.

I have heard a lot of folks saying focus stacking is the way to do macro work. I would say what ever works for you. I have never had a camera that had focus stacking as a feature and have been doing macro photography for years. I do enjoy using what is available to me and using DOF in macro is one way to handle it, I have also used swings and tilt on a view camera to gain DOF in the focus plane I desired. With a rigid camera you are limited to what f stop you use. Focus stacking is another tool, that I haven't felt I needed yet.
