pridbor Posted May 23, 2018 Share #1  Posted May 23, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Do all filters of the same size e.g. 55 mm have the same threads??  Looking to buy some filters for protection, mostly from dust sitting unused.  So if I see a filter for e.g. a Canon with 55mm filter size will it then therefore also fit my R lenses, or did Leica have a unique thread for any and all lenses??  Thanks in advance for your responses  Preben

david strachan Posted May 23, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted May 23, 2018 If it says 55mm...it will fit all 55mm threads. Just gets tricky when it's a much smaller filter size. Â Â ...
jaapv Posted May 23, 2018 Share #3 Â Posted May 23, 2018 There are some exceptions, e.g. the Summicron-C 40 mm lens, which uses a different thread pitch, and some that take series filters through an adapter like the very first Apo-Telyt 135 lenses and the Summiluxes M 21 and 24, but by and large most Leica lenses take standard filter sizes. Usually this is indicated by the prefix "E". Like for instance E55.
UliWer Posted May 23, 2018 Share #4  Posted May 23, 2018 According to the list on p.9.21 of the Leica Handbuch 2002/2003 all filters from 32mm to 43mm for Leitz and Leica lenses had a pitch of 0.5, those with larger diameters had a 0.75 pitch.  The odd M39*0.75 thread of the Summicron-C was for the hood, not for the filter. You needed Serie 5.5 filters for the lens, which had a diameter of 36mm and were held by the hood.
