It had a gas mask in it. ..... When I was older, I removed the mask and used it to carry my first film SLR in the mid 70’s. A Nikkormat FTN. I still have this bag in a storage room...in a box. I miss my father. Thank you for this image. There used to be "Army-Navy Stores" everywhere that sold cheap but solid stuff for citywear, camping gear and all the rest, with the core goods being actual war surplus from WWII and Korea. I could dress from them up until about 1980. They are gone now. The army goods ran out and REI, EMS, Patagonia, mail sales and the rest upscaled folks like me... But you should proudly continue to use the bag. With my M2, I could carry three lenses, a dozen film cans, and stuff. No scratches as the main bag is lined and there are two or three little pockets inside. Some dust. (Not a question posed to you in particular, rrdiaz30) but my mind wanders strange pathways sometimes: why was it called a "gas mask" rather than an "anti-gas mask" I wonder? The former name suggests an opposite and devastating purpose.😮 Pete.
