Since yesterday I have been unable to sign into the forum with Tapatalk. I initially was booted out for no reason and now the login fails each time I try to get back in. Is this an issue with the forum or is it just me?

I had the same problem and gave up.

I haven't heard about a "discontinuation" either. It was working fine a couple of days ago. If the LUF has been shut off from Tapatalk it must be a recent development.

Thanks. Might have been helpful if Andreas had notified us in the English language section (unless I have missed that?). Might have saved a bit of time fannying around trying to enter my password, etc.

I was in the same position. If there was an announcement in the English section of the forum I missed it.

It's not too much of an issue, this is the only forum I use that supports Tapatalk, and I only use it on my phone anyway.

Sorry – my fault.

The GDPR, especially the German flavor DSGVO (Datenschutzgrundverordnung), keeps my busy (and is driving my crazy).

So I forgot to inform you here...

Long story short:

New privacy regulations go active on May 25th, relevant for everything related to processing of personal data.

This is what I do here with your email addresses etc. so this is very relevant for the forum.

Fines go up to 20 mio Euro...

I have to make sure that your personal data are protected from unauthorized access, for example by signing contracts with companies like my hosting provider.

Tapatalk had far-reaching access to the forum database but…

- doesn't offer such a contract

- is not compliant to EU privacy norms

… and wasn't very open to questions (to say the least)

Thus I'm running an immense risk if I continue to run Tapatalk.

I'm planning the update to a new forum version which brings much better support for mobile access but I can't promise an exact date.

Again: Sorry for the late information but this is an existential risk for me.

Andreas

Thanks Andreas.

The owner of another forum I visit dropped Tapatalk support a while ago because of the issues he had with it. That forum recently migrated to XenForo which he felt was much superior forum software to what he was using before - which if I remember correctly was VBulletin.

The mobile support for the new software is pretty good.

I'm not getting too deep into this - choosing the right forum software is a complicated issue...

XENForo seems to be great - though I didn't use it until now. Only lacks some features and extensions which are crucial for my communities.

vBulletin was great and I used it until 2014. Later versions became worse and worse. Good move to drop it some years ago...

I'm using IPBoard - for now it's version 3.4 but I'm going to move to 4.3 – which will have a much better support for mobile devices.

Like most other people in Europe, I have received hundreds of emails from all and sundry with whom I have had contact over the years, all of them asking me if I wish to remain “part of their community” or however they term it.

This new data law has been a godsend when it comes to being able to say “Cheerio” to dozens of firms from whom I never want to hear again. (Are you listening, Mercedes Benz?)

The best bit is that they have to ask me :)

Reverse 15 posts. Start reading till you get back to where you posted. Hit head on table. Repeat. :)

i tried that but it keeps asking for my password and I now have a headache
