well I've searched and can't locate the file either on the UK or US version of the site and the email link still shows 'forbidden' to access the download.

can you post a direct link to the FW please .... ?

..... finally managed it by 'logging on' to the members area ....... although the process is rather convoluted and never had to do this before to access firmware ...

FW file is only accessible via member area, to access you need to register if not registered already.

I got it there, too.  Registering gets you a long random string of letters and numbers as password to paste in and I had to go through the product registration page to get to a dialog that said here's your new SL firmware.  But it worked.

Leica sends you your password IN the CLEAR by email!  not a good security practice.

Since all the other obvious sites have posted the instructions for downloading 3.2 firmware, I am sure this will get sorted out shortly.

UPgrade went as usual (I just put the .lfu file in the root of my current #1 card and go to camera Information, save my settings as user profile #1 and copy it down to the card as prompted, then upload (as not prompted) afterwards).  This time, my first shot after the upload (below) was numbered correctly and in the current directory.  That hasn't always happened in past upgrades.

Happy about the joystick lock ...... only functions when in 'taking photos' mode and suits my style as I have always locked and recomposed .... except for tripod use.

Not so happy about the power save closing everything down after a few seconds ...... and the delay when coming back to life. I don't think I'll be using it.

Nothing else very exciting ....  :(

Except for the 16-35 (and possibly the 75 and 90 Cron's) - for those having these lenses in-house...  ;) . Not me. Yet.

Be careful.  This sounds like something was discovered close to the release time, holding up the shipment of final copies to the regular site.  Perhaps they forgot to take down the members' copy rather than forgot to upload the public copy.  When it finally surfaces, let's check the two versions with a DIFF comparison.

Also, be aware that the new power saving mode is ON by default, but it shuts the camera down rather quickly and increases the time you need to take each shot.  Unless you are several days up the Amazon with only one battery, I don't think you will want to work that way.  Look several pages down in the settings part of the menu for power saving and turn it OFF.  The time-out in power save mode seems to be about 3 seconds.  Restore time is 1-2 seconds.

I don't think I'll be in a hurry to download. It doesn't sound like there's anything I need.

What I'd still like is a means of quickly recentering the focus point, or automatic recentering after taking my eye from the vf.

The instruction sheet notes a new feature: "New menu item 'USB-Mode' allows to use mass storage or PTP USB connection device."

Wot dat?

If you want to download files from the cards to your computer over the USB connection you can now hook up the cable, define the USB connection as "mass storage" and you see the files on the card as an external drive.  Downloading this way is still not as fast as just putting the card in the slot in the side of my laptop, so as long as you have a card slot or card reader, I don't see the point.  PTP mode is what is used for tethered attachment, where you can control the camera as well as capture dng files without storing them on the card.

It will also allow you to copy files to the camera, wouldn't it?

So you can copy a new firmware to the card if your laptop doesn't have a card slot. You could copy an owners file to the card. It might be possible that you could download the firmware to an android PHONE and then copy it to the card in the camera and update firmware without a computer at all.

I'll have to test that out.

I knew it was too good to true  :(    from Red dot:

"It is important to note that you can’t use the joystick lock if you have the SL in MF focus mode and use the rear joystick to activate AF-S. Each time you press the joystick in, a lock indicator will show in the viewfinder and AF-S will not engage. I think a better implementation would give the user the option to lock the directional movement of the joystick but still allow button press to be able to use it for AF-S focus activation"

After the upgrade, mine re-set to L1000001, which didn't happen with the last FW upgrade. And the GPS geo-tagging still doesn't work.

Leica hasn't managed to preserve the information about what you most recent shot number is across upgrades.  If you do the upgrade with a freshly formatted chip, even though it will remind you to save your user profiles, that does not save the last file number, so it will start the numbering with folder L100 (unless you have set a different first letter) and file L1000001.  If you get around this by using a chip with existing files on it for the upgrade, it will take the lowest number unfilled folder and add the first shot there.  That's what I did, I think.
