- well, actually, two of them:

First, what does the "2K" at the bottom right of my EVF mean?

Second, where can I get one of those plug-in thingies that replaces the long power cord for the charger (US  electrics)?

Settling in with this Q. Have not picked up the D5 since its arrival. Honest.

Thanks...

I thought you should have a U.S. compatible cord included. If you mean something to replace that, Amazon should sell them.

I once asked my local Leica store about the 2k. FWIW, the guy thought it meant approximately how many pictures your memory card would hold. I'm shooting with a 64 gig card and I get 4k on my screen. So, are you using a 32 gig card?

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I am shooting with a 128 gig card. Perhaps the "2K" refers to video (which I know nothing about.)

Yes, I want to replace my US compatible cord, with the kind of thingie that is a short piece of plastic that plugs into the charger on one end, and on the other end is the outlet plug. This eliminates the need to carry a long and bulky cord. I just don't know what to call them - other than "thingie."

Get Panasonic Lumix charger - DE-A79.  Amazon has them.  Lumix battery is also recommended: DMW-BLC12PP.  Identical to Leica at 1/2 the price.

The 2K is approx number of images that can be stored on your memory card.  I don't know why it is only 2K on a 128G card.   But then I didn't know that the Q could handle 128G cards, either.   My camera with a 16G card set to store DNG only reads 347.

Search for "figure 8 power adapter" or "stub plug for chargers" to find the part you want.  That will get you close, anyway.  Example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004OGXY72

I have 3 or 4 of the kind where the prongs fold into the base around the house.  They came with different devices I've ordered over the years.

Yep, formatted the card when first used, and after every use. My workflow is to load images onto my iMac via a card reader. Then I return the card to the camera and format it. 128gb card works fine - they were used in my now departed D850...

Based on a 43.1mb file size, should be closer to 3k. Perhaps it doesn’t go that high?

The figure-8 plugs in the Apple World Travel Adapter Kit ($29) also works with the Leica charger though I now use the Nitecore ULQ Travel USB Charger.

I use this adapter I purchased from the Miami Leica store online: https://leicastoremiami.com/products/plug-adapter-angled-for-battery-chargers?variant=20723625221

+1 (probably just deleting unwanted pics in camera just as good though :D )

That's what I do, too, but I read somewhere that it's better to reformat the card: apparently it guarantees a better "connection" between the card and camera. I don't know....

I carry a card case and use the same cards in both Leica Q and Canon bodies -- my habit is to never delete images until the card is reused -- then reformat it in the camera so that the camera/card connection is guaranteed.

When putting a card full of new images into the case, I put it in upside down (Label to the rear) so that I dont reuse it until all the images are saved on a hard drive or two.

I carry a WD "MyPassport Wireless" drive in one of my bags.  Battery powered, I can boot it up and use its SD slot to save a backup during a break in the field before getting to the hotel/home.  Card goes back into case upside down

At home/hotel, the card is read a second time into a computer.  Lightroom backs them up to the cloud while I sleep!  THEN it goes back into the case with label up (meaning its ready for format/reuse).

Cards really do fail, so make multiple backups and treat your cards gently.

Out of interest, are you using pc or Mac in conjunction with your WD external drive?

Thanks.

Using MacBook Pro and/or iPhone/iPad.  In the hotel I link the Passport Wireless (PW) to the hotel WiFi than all devices can connect to the PW's own WiFi and share the hotel connection. And they can login to transfer images to the PW.  Others have linked from Windows machines without issue.

My older PW does not display RAW file thumbnails -- so I just ordered the new PW Pro so that I can search through the thumbnails.  It is also supposedly much faster.  The new ones also allow USB-A devices to connect their cables, so now I can read from my CF card reader or directly from iPhones.
