Advertisement Posted June 8, 2018 Posted June 8, 2018 Hi scott kirkpatrick, Take a look here So, who's buying the 16-35mm?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Andrew Gough Posted June 20, 2018 Share #342 Posted June 20, 2018 My full review of the lens http://www.aphotovid.com/leica-super-vario-elmar-sl-16-35-f-3-5-4-5-asph-full-review/
Iainho70 Posted June 21, 2018 Share #343 Posted June 21, 2018 Bought this lens from Leica Hamburg and initial impressions are excellent with very good corner sharpness at landscape apertures. Will post some landscape shots when I come back from Romania, Germany and USA later this year.
scott kirkpatrick Posted June 21, 2018 Share #344 Posted June 21, 2018 No miracles. The 16-35 is not parfocal (but it is not far off.) I tested at about 5 m distance. Focus wide open at 35 mm, then shift to 16 mm, and things look pretty good at f/8 or so, but open back up to f/3.5 and there is a little softness. The Moire that looked pretty crisp at f/8 is now softened. Re focusing at 15mm wide open sharpens it back to the way it looked at f/8. Now shift the focal length to 35 mm, wide open (f/4.5) and the result is unacceptably soft. So the old trick of focusing at the longest focal length before opening up will work in a pinch, but don't go the other way.
Timkr Posted June 21, 2018 Share #345 Posted June 21, 2018 Can anybody who has used the canon equivalent compare the two in terms of image quality? I have the leica on order but am wondering if it’s worth the price relative to the alternative. Thanks

jrp Posted June 27, 2018 Share #347 Posted June 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) OK, so they seem to have managed to get a few demo 16-35mm lenses out (presumably from a test build batch), but where's the first real batch? I suppose that I shouldn't hold my breath. The 90mm is still not available, despite having been announced a couple of months before the 16-35mm, although here do seem to be one or two 75mm about. Well, mine seems to have arrived, so the production line, that is rumoured to have been shut down by a power surge frying equipment, must be up and running... Mine arrived yesterday. Unfortunately my SL is at Leica New Jersey getting a stuck Video Button fixed.
jrp Posted June 30, 2018 Share #349 Posted June 30, 2018 Although I am sure that the range of this lens is a product of physics, it is very useful for wide-angle addicts like me to be shown how useful 35mm is, in practice.
