Csacwp Posted March 9, 2018 Share #1 Â Posted March 9, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I love my SL, but I have a lot of trouble getting perfect focus on eyes when I do not zoom in with magnification. Is the CL any easier to focus without zooming in?
Advertisement Posted March 9, 2018 Posted March 9, 2018 Hi Csacwp, Take a look here Focusing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted March 9, 2018 Share #2  Posted March 9, 2018 Possibly. The smaller sensor format will give you a bit more DOF. I wouldn't expect miracles, though.
lct Posted March 9, 2018 Share #3 Â Posted March 9, 2018 + 1 and depends on lenses as well. Focusing is easier with fast lenses, contrasty ones and telephotos but it is hardly possible to "nail" focus otherwise than by way of image magnification. LocalHero1953 Posted March 9, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted March 9, 2018 50:50 - better depth of field for equivalent field of view, but lower res EVF. I prefer to use AF for people.
Jake Posted March 9, 2018 Share #5  Posted March 9, 2018 I have not noticed any image magnification whatsoever in the EVF whether it's turned on or off. Only focus peaking works for me. Right wheel in M mode only changes aperture.  What am I doing wrong?
Csacwp Posted March 9, 2018 Author Share #6  Posted March 9, 2018 the right wheel magnifies when M lenses are attached. I’m wondering how hard it is to achieve critical focus when using say a 35mm stopped down to f/8.
jaapv Posted March 9, 2018 Share #7 Â Posted March 9, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Easy, even @ 1.4.

Csacwp Posted March 9, 2018 Author Share #9  Posted March 9, 2018 Yes. I know it’s easy at 1.4 as you can see the separation. At f/8 with a lot of depth of field, how can one tell when the subject is in critical focus?
jaapv Posted March 9, 2018 Share #10 Â Posted March 9, 2018 magnification.
Csacwp Posted March 9, 2018 Author Share #11 Â Posted March 9, 2018 So there is no fast way to do it?
jaapv Posted March 9, 2018 Share #12 Â Posted March 9, 2018 It is rather fast; just a flick of the right wheel.
norm_snyder Posted March 9, 2018 Share #13  Posted March 9, 2018 Using a 75mm f2 wide open with the M adapter-L, as well as magnification on a club shoot, I was able to highlight the catchlight in the eyes using peaking. Quicker and surer for me than the rengefinder on my Ms in lower light. Touch the shutter release to return to full frame, compose and shoot. A real pleasure, to the point that it’s possible the CL could replace my MM in low light, using M lenses.
