Tallulah Posted February 5, 2018 Share #1 Posted February 5, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is my first post as my M10 and Summilux 35 will just be arriving in a few days! I would also like a 50mm in my bag for an up coming holiday, but need some help in deciding which one to get. It’s between the Summicron APO and the silver (am aware of its weight) Summilux. I mostly take family/friends/pets and some architectural photos. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! BTW, I am a Bokeh lover:)
Advertisement Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Hi Tallulah, Take a look here M10 with the Summilux 35, but what 50mm to buy?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Tallulah Posted February 6, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted February 6, 2018 Do you have the black or silver version? I know it shouldn’t matter, but I’m getting the silver m10 and just think the silver lux looks better on it but am worried about the weight. Hence, the APO is a consideration. michaelwj Posted February 6, 2018 Share #5 Posted February 6, 2018 For the bokeh lover... http://www.leicashop.com/brandnew_en/leica/m-system/objektive/standard/leica-noctilux-m-1-0-95-50mm-asph-silver.html
Tallulah Posted February 6, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted February 6, 2018 Totally agree that the Noctilux is amazing however it weighs even more than the lux:(!! For what it’s worth I’m a pretty petite woman.

duoenboge Posted February 6, 2018 Share #8 Posted February 6, 2018 If you are looking for a 50mm with beautifully bokeh I would recommend you the Sonnar 1.5/50 from Zeiss. You´ll love it.
ianman Posted February 6, 2018 Share #9 Posted February 6, 2018 I mostly take family/friends/pets and some architectural photos. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! BTW, I am a Bokeh lover:) In this case I would strongly suggest to take a 90mm Summicron (or 75mm Summilux if you can find one)
ropo54 Posted February 6, 2018 Share #10 Posted February 6, 2018 All great choices! 50 summilux for price; Noctilux for uniqueness and more low light capability; APO for incredibly clean and sharp transitions from focus to bokeh. Longer focal length might also be versatile for portraits. Wider angle might be good for some urban city and architectural on occasion. If you decide to just carry light - 2 lenses only - I'd probably go with the 35 1.4 and the 50 M APO. Rob
SiggiGun Posted February 6, 2018 Share #11 Posted February 6, 2018 Hi all here my vision (I agree with "all lenses are great",... BUT they are for different usage). You have a 35 LUX so you need not necessary speed for 50mm => the "simple" Summicron is a good choice. If you need "Bokeh", and if the Noctilux is to big and havy. A good option is the Zeiss 1.5. However, personnaly I find the difference between 35 and 50 not sufficient in terms of perspective. I prefer 35 + 75 (APO if you need very high contrast and definition or Lux if you want "feeling"). Best regards,
pedaes Posted February 6, 2018 Share #12 Posted February 6, 2018 (edited) Might as well get APO 50 Summicron now, as you will forever be wishing you had if you don't. No weight penalty for silver. The silver Summilux is a thing of beauty, but it does weigh some. Edited February 6, 2018 by pedaes

BTW, I am a Bokeh lover:) From scratch (sorry not in this stage for decades for me), as you I would take Noctilux 1.0 (mine is E58 first and finest Noctilux in handling) to complement (your M10 + 35). Another thought... Or better yet, Summilux-M 75mm (finest boheh !) or easier to find second hand or new Apo-Summicron-M 75mm (my wife's favorite and her photos are much better than mine). Have a look here for some "advices" Summilux 75mm : https://www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/218058-advice-on-75-summilux/ Edited February 6, 2018 by a.noctilux
onasj Posted February 6, 2018 Share #14 Posted February 6, 2018 I agree with some of the above responses that if you get the 35 lux FLE, and you want a 50 that complements it, the 50 APO is an ideal choice. I end up taking more photos with the 50 APO than with any other lens for a variety of reasons, including overall sharpness, amazing fall off between in-focus subjects and out-of-focus regions, sharpness across the frame at all apertures, bokeh quality, and size/weight. The only real downside of the 50 APO, especially if you already have the 35 lux for low light shooting, is the cost.
Neko Posted February 6, 2018 Share #15 Posted February 6, 2018 I have the 35 lux and 50 APO. Is a great combo. The 50 APO is my favourite lens by far. Sharp wide open, with beautiful boke and insanely sharp (corner to corner) stoped down. Get the 50 APO and you won't look back.
Abram Posted February 6, 2018 Share #16 Posted February 6, 2018 My 35/50 combo (on film and the M10) is actually the 35 FLE and the 50mm Elmar-M. I don't really need speed most of the time and I like the rendering of the Elmar.

For what it’s worth I’m a pretty petite woman. Elmar-M 50mm collapsible. You’ll be amazed and will stay that way as long as you shoot with it. Pleasant bo-keh. You don’t need that Summilux weight, besides the body falls foreover with that lens mounted. Edited February 6, 2018 by otto.f
Jeff S Posted February 6, 2018 Share #18 Posted February 6, 2018 (edited) The only real downside of the 50 APO, especially if you already have the 35 lux for low light shooting, is the cost.I didn’t like the ergonomics of the APO compared to the Summilux ASPH.... focus ring too close to aperture ring and not fully knurled, plus both samples I tried had extremely loose aperture rings. The LHSA Anniversary version solves the first two issues, but lacks the built-in hood.....and costs near $10k. Flu Posted February 7, 2018 Share #20 Posted February 7, 2018 Bokeh lover you say? I hear the latest and greatest 75 Noctilux has the thinnest DOF. Might be worth a shot!
