Previous model with plastic hood. I have no plans to change this in the foreseeable future. I have a asph copy of this lens. I love all aspects of this lens except for one thing the plastic lens hood. It falls of constantly. I've lost it and found it several times along the way and also have purchased several new ones as well.
B-A-C Posted February 12, 2018 Share #23  Posted February 12, 2018 What are your thoughts on using the lens without a hood?  I love the small size and protect the element with a filter.  Works great.  I have a asph copy of this lens. Csacwp Posted February 12, 2018 Share #24 Â Posted February 12, 2018 My plastic lens hood stays on fine. So does the 12504 hood I purchased.
lct Posted February 12, 2018 Share #25 Â Posted February 12, 2018 What are your thoughts on using the lens without a hood? Â I love the small size and protect the element with a filter. Â Works great. Â This lens is not flare free so adding another cause of reflection as a filter w/o any shade is the last thing i would do. If you need a "protective" filter, so be it you are not alone on this forum, but you need a good hood for this lens and the one you have is one of the best if not the best available for it. ru2far2c Posted February 13, 2018 Share #26 Â Posted February 13, 2018 B-A-C, Not a big fan of using UV filters/protective filter on my lenses. As I'm sure it has been discussed here and many other forums they create there own set of issues in certain lighting situations. There are just as many cons as there pros to having a filter on ones lens as opposed to a lens hood or both. I would rather have a lens hood that stayed on my lens. The hood that came with this particular lens was not designed really well for staying attached to this lens. I can either live with it or purchase a third party screw mount. What are your thoughts on using the lens without a hood? Â I love the small size and protect the element with a filter. Â Works great.
