Csacwp Posted January 27, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 27, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Could users here please post examples of these two lenses, especially of portraits and scenes with foliage? I’m trying to decide between them.
Advertisement Posted January 27, 2018 Posted January 27, 2018 Hi Csacwp, Take a look here 50 Summilux Asph vs 50 Summicron pre-asph (v5). I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
pedaes Posted January 27, 2018 Share #2 Posted January 27, 2018 I don't think you will tell much from low res images allowed here on a monitor. There are Flickr groups for both lenses so you could look there and find the subjects you are interested in. From experience with both, the Summilux is sharper and more contrasty. lct Posted January 28, 2018 Share #3 Posted January 28, 2018 Mandler's vs Karbe's. Different beasts. Depends on your own preference. If what you prefer is the sharper lens, the 50/14 asph is for you. But it is a rather harsh lens on portraits. The Summicron v5 is more forgiving while being a sharp lens otherwise which explains perhaps its long career since 1979. B-A-C Posted January 31, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 31, 2018 You ultimately have to decide for yourself. I will say that 60% of my best photos have come from the 50 Lux ASPH. It is simply outstanding. IMO the best lens Leica makes...That being said the cron is excellent as well. It's up to you.
kaspart Posted January 31, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 31, 2018 some years ago I did this comparison: www.l-camera-forum.com/topic/226470-50mm-lens-comparison/ no portraits, but some foliage
roger_1987 Posted February 23, 2018 Share #6 Posted February 23, 2018 At f2, the cron has more vignette than the lux, and when focused close, say within 5 feet, seems to be just a little more contrasty near the centre. But the latter property may depends largely on lighting conditions and almost negligible.
Abram Posted February 23, 2018 Share #7 Posted February 23, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I just didn't really care for the 50mm Summilux ASPH when I had one, and I very much enjoy 50mm. It's sharp of course, but I felt like the lens was so hyped up that I had unrealistic expectations only to be disappointed by it. Not to mention the focusing issues (had to be adjusted twice), the oily aperture blades, oh and the lens came apart into two pieces because some little screw worked its way loose and fell out never to be seen again. I never had any problems like that with any of the 50mm Summicrons I've owned and I probably should have just kept one of them but I wound up with a 50mm Elmar-M and I'm perfectly happy . Note: I know multitudes of people are very happy with their 50mm Summilux ASPHs, I'm just sharing one opinion and one experience.
