The roof conservation project at The Vyne includes a walkway from which visitors can view the work. It’s not often you get a bird’s eye view of a Tudor chimney stack.

These newly restored chimneys are covered to prevent the lime mortar drying out too quickly.

This one shows bare roof timbers awaiting conservation(foreground), a restored roof ready for tiling (right) and a half finished roof (left).

What a great set of construction photos this is. Visitors are never allowed this close to construction in the states,  insurers wouldn't hear of it. If more people could see this important work, the less resistance to preservation there might be. Thanks for posting these shots.

Great set of photos.

Not visited this house, but a couple of years ago I did get a look at the roof repairs at Castle Drogo. I have kept a look out for other sites where a similar thing is possible should I be in the area - the work is quite fascinating.
