That file does not open in my system, either Acrobat Reader, Preview or PDF Pen Pro - all say it is corrupted.

There is some ambiguous filter data on the Forum Wiki. For example for my 24/2.8 Elmarit-R ROM lens, the wiki says Series VIII. This may be required for earlier versions of the lens but mine also has an e60 thread. The only filter where a Series VIII would be an advantage is with a polariser, where the hood which acts as a series VIII filter retainer, has a small wheel at the edge which rotates the filter. This wheel does not rotate the Rodenstock E60 polariser I am using.

According to my Leica catalogue from 1981, the lens has an M 60 x 0.75 filter thread and Series 8 filters to be used with the 12523 hood.

Hello Amaitra, Michael Geschlect and others.

I've just bought an elderly Elmarit-R 90mm f2.8 for use on my SL (still awaiting the adapter). It came with a Series VII retaining ring (marked 'Germany') holding a yellow filter. I've tried to replace the VII with a 55mm (modern) filter which doesn't fit, so I'm assuming an earlier comment about 54.4mm dia. is correct. I'd like to get a clear (UV?) filter as a protector - anyone know where from (UK preferably)?

BTW, I'm using a Nikon 58mm lens cap, attached to the hood rim, for carrying.

I think what is being said is that you will find that a regular screw in filter of an appropriate size will drop into a series filter holder in place of a plain series filter without a screw thread.

An E39 filter will fit in a series 6 holder if you drop it in upside down, with the screw thread facing outward and a series 7 lenshood I bought recently 12504 had a screw thread filter inside, cannot remember what size it was.. It’s just a matter of finding a filter that fits inside the holder and still allows the retaining ring to be screwed on.

The inner diameter of the 14161 ring is just over 50mm. A modern 49mm filter fits snugly, though different filters have different rim thicknesses - thin ones 'rattle' around in the 14161 as it can't be tightened enough. But I robbed another lens of a Hoya Pro1 49mm UV and this is a 'perfect' fit. Problem solved!
