Nice lens but the article did not compel me to buy one.

Heavy, bulky, expensive, probably unusable on an M camera without an EVF due to viewfinder blockage & focus difficulty wide open, and I rarely shoot my fastest lenses wide open for that zero-depth-of-field look (or 'gimmick' as Kristian calls it) .  I'll stick with my old 75 Summilux and 75 APO-Summicron.

Nikkor 105 might be a more practical option in some respects, certainly $, but dslr’s can struggle at times to achieve consistent, critical focus. Rangefinders too, which is one reason why maybe best paired with the sl.

But the SL will have its own 75mm Summicron with AF out in due course (although it’s taking a while). That will be a more practical instrument than this showcase. And the 24-90 zoom is a cut above its peers, where f3.5 suffices.

The article does make a compelling case for the 75 Noctilux.  Regrettably, $12,800 USD is out of reach for many of us.  I'm sure that anyone who can afford this masterpiece will buy it, which worldwide will be more than a few but still a microscopic number by Nikon/Sony/Fuij/Canon standards.  Hopefully it will be enough to keep Leica interested in making the lens long term.

Maybe one day...

Thanks for sharing; as usual, Erwin Puts offers very sensible insights and analysis on this topic.

Sensible, but rambling sentence upon sentence with no paragraph breaks to make it easy to follow.

He must write like he thinks, in one long, never-ending thought process.

Fantastic lens. I've used it but not with an EVF. Might be easier to use the defocus control, which I found a bit challenging with DSLR focusing screens.

Time has a way of clearing the air. It will be fun to see what happens with regard to this lens over the coming months. Art, images, and the appreciation for the tools that create them are all subjective. For years I read about the 1.4/35mm Summilux FLE and even enjoyed the images. When I tried it for myself I just xouldn’t Make myself like the lens or the results. It’s a funny game we all play. Stay tuned....
