TL2+Tele 500f8 + adaptador MD a M + adaptador Leica M a L.

El adaptador M-L debe ser el original de Leica, al menos es el que he probado.

I recieved the 200 Micro Nikkor yesteday, a big lens about the same weight as my 200 f4 Telyt. internal focus, so no size change. Here are some disorganized forsythia blossoms at about 1:2.

from the CL

TL2+Minolta 500mm f8 = (750 mm en TL2).

Football game and without tripods, it is not easy to focus.

^^^ Minolta 500mm reflex lens is the same design / construction as the Leitz MR Telyt 500/8 and is usually c.  one quarter of the price

Yes it is, and the performance is similar, both are not fast in focusing and for better performance it is necessary to use tripods.

This is such an interesting thread!

I want to have a go with a long lens on my CL.  I have an M to L adapter.  But not sure what budget vintage lens to go for.  I just need to choose a mount and buy another adapter.

Would this be a good option?

‘this might be a silly question - would I need to add a tripod collar to this lens to mount it on a tripod/monopod? If so anything I need to watch out for when buying one?

sorry many questions!

If you have an adapter from M to L and to avoid problems, it is better to use the one from Leica. You buy another adapter from MD to M and if the Lens is well preserved I don't see that you can have any problem.

If you decide to buy the objective that you indicate, when you can, tell us how it goes with it.

I am liking the 200 Micro Nikkor, very easy to focus, internal focusing so the lens size doesn't change. I have bought a Nikon TC301 to go with it, makes a 400 f8, a little slow but the images are quite good, with the TC you can focus to a 1:1 magnification,a long lens but still well balanced. The combination was under $400 US. the only down side is using ISO 800 or 1600. The image is ISO 1600.

Consider adding a hard foam extension to the focusing ring - easy to cut piece of hard foam to a wedge shape and secure to focusing ring with rubber bands . Enables finer focus.

The 75-200mm zoom is OK ish but a better choice would be a 300mm enabling 450mm equivalent , e.g.,

https://www.ffordes.com/p/SOR-42-054112/canon-fd/300mm-f4-fd-l. ... fairly easy to source  but be sure to find the 'Canon FD-L' version ... L= ED glass

Lens has an accessory tripod collar. Any Canon FD to Leica L mount adapter can be used e.g. https://uk.urth.co/products/canon-fd-lens-mount-to-leica-l-camera-mount

Adapter has a stop down mechanism.

When using manual focus legacy lenses on the Leica CL, in the Menu options, access:  FOCUSING - FOCUS ASSIST - AUTO MAGNIFICATION ... ON   .... thus enabling 'live view' magnified focus of 3x or 6x ... by toggling the UP arrow and centre button

Another good alternative is the Zeiss Contax 300/f4 Tele Tessar, which are easily available and fairly cheap. There is also a 300/f2.8 Apotessar Zeiss Contax but these are very rare and super expensive (£10,000+). You can extend the 300 Tele Tessar to 600mm and 1200mm with stacked Mutar I and Mutar II tele extenders. I use this on various Leicas with a Novoflex LEM-CONT adapter and M to L adapter on L mount bodies.

Cheers Dunk - the FD L glass sounds like a good choice.  And the 450mm with collar also great.  Will update this post once I’ve gotten one.

I am already shooting a 90mm old Elmar F4 LTM on the CL. The magnification and focus peaking works a treat! Having lots of fun. I just want more reach!
